I have a Sony SAT-60 which came from the factory with a 40 gig hard drive and had it upgraded a fews years back by having some company add an 80 gig drive as the second drive.
Lately, it's been very "jumpy", with pixilating "pauses" every few seconds. At this point I feel that there is a problem with the original 40 gig hard drive. Right or wrong, I am proceeding to this route.
Most of the instructions and processes are geared for people who want to SAVE their recordings. I do not. As the initial step of my "investigation" I did a CLEAR & DELETE EVERYTHING, which did not help at all.
What I want to do is use my current B drive (80 gig) and make it my new Drive A, taking the unit from a dual to a single drive unit. Losing some space is no big deal as I have lots of others.
What is unknown to me is whether the current Drive B contains any of the necessary Tivo Software, or is strictly used as an overflow for recordings.
To do a "backup" to TIVO.BAK, does my Drive B (which will become my new drive A) have to be connected to the PC for copying, or can I just hook up the Drive A (40 gig).
Then, do I simply do a backup of the 40 gig (A) and restore to the 80 gig (B) after putting the jumpers as the master drive setting?
In documentation, the sections relating to "Replacing a Dual Drive Tivo with a larger Single Drive Tivo" do not account for the old drive B to be used as the new drive A. Plus since I am not saving any recordings, the process (although I assume to be easier) is confusing on the documentation.
I Have the CD of MFS Tools 2.0 and it's documentation.
Is there something else I should read or can someone tell me if there is more involved than just backing up drive A and restoring it on the old Drive B.
Would be gratefull for any advice!
Thanks,
Mark
