When my Tivos upgraded to 7.2.2, the message said that the suggestions feature has been improved. Does anybody know the details on how in changed? I assume the algorithm was improved, but I'm curious spefically what is different.

TiVo has been reticent to provide details other than to say they think it's better. They don't publish details in general on how Suggestions work.

Hey! First Post! (Long time, first time, though...)

Purely anecdotal, but my suggestions seem to be leaning more towards non-season pass related shows after the upgrade.

Before 7.2.2, it would probably be 75% SP-related/25% LiveTV-related and now it's 50% SP/40% Live/10% ???. I don't know where those 10% of shows are coming from unless I turned onto a related show by accident and it picked up on that immediately after the upgrade with no other data to use. Hopefully the 10% will go away as I do more live watching and the algorithm gets better data.

I woke up today to find 7.2.2 installed overnight. I found "Beautes Deseperes" recording, the french version of Desperate Housewifes. This despite the fact I have three thumbs down on Desperate Housewifes and anything resembling it. I pretty much only watch movies, hockey, and game shows. :)

There's also 150+ items from the last month in the Recently Deleted folder, which surprises me. And annoyingly, the most recent stuff is at the bottom, and it takes a few minutes to get to the bottom.

edit: found the skip ahead button takes me to the bottom of the list. Complaint retracted.

It would be nice if they counted thumbs for movies to be more like "record movies like this" than "record this movie". If I give a movie thumbs up, I've probably already seen it and don't need to record it, but I would like similar things suggested.

From what I've seen, they opened up the suggestions a bit to go further away from SPs and just things you have thumbed. I've had a larger assortment of things, and a definate increase in movies. So far I give it a  (couldn't resist), I've even discovered a couple new things.

I've had the same experience. More movies and a wider variety of programming. It's kind of fun since suggestions should help you explore new shows, not just get ones it already knows you like.

When you give something a Thumb Up, or Down, that rating is distributed by category and sub-category, actors, directors, etc. So if you gave Raiders of the Lost Ark a positive rating, it would bump up Harrison Ford, Steven Speilberg, and probably Movies and Action Adventure. (I have no idea if that's the right sub-category.)
