Ricky and his new band and all the lights..oh my!
Ace: I dont know the song so can only assume all his stage moves etc were part of it and the 80s :) He sure buttered us up on the Stevie previews with all that mushy stuff. I didn't think it sounded like his regular voice and wasn't good for him song wise. But obvously Paula loves him so I must be wrong :)
Pickles: Loved the admission she had no clue what she was doing. She shouldn't have set herself up for failure though. I think it was a self fulfilling thing. Also the comment that she got the shoes on sale sort of firms up that they dont get a big budget for clothes I guess. Even my wife said pickles wasn't good so she must not have been. My wife can't be wrong. Kelly needs to stop pointing out how unfamiliar she is with the girlie things that most women already know. I hope the spiders on her eyes go away soon :) I was half expecting her to say she put on a thong for the first time today.
Elliott: Perhaps they will remember his last note and vote for him. Didn't work for me dog :) (nor my SO...gotta get her more involved here)
Mandisa: Ok why do women wear shoes they cant walk in? I know I sure dont care about footwear. Will anyone out there tell me why in the world you put yourself though this? Men sure dont care about heels so stop trying to impress other women. that being said, I want my idol to wear shoes so no vote from me :) How unprofessional. But her singing was pretty good even though I hate when they scream and add their own stuff to a song. Add shoes and let her not sweat so bad for an entire set during a concert and I'm sure she will do fine. I haven't been to a concert in a while but I'm pretty sure you have to go for at least 1 hour to please your fans.
Bucky: funny that Simon didn't know what extensions were. he looked better with his hair down. I liked the song.
Mel: I like her but am not a fan of glitter. And her saying her voice is rough is sorta not gonna work since she has gravel by nature. that part of her dress under the belt made me think there was a spot on her dress and I wanted to flick it off. The beginning of the song was painful. Even my deaf ear could tell it wasn't good. Randy was very nice to her all things considered. though I dont think America cares about lyrics at this point. Simon must have been paid off. Even me as her fan didn't think it was her best.
Lisa: very active on stage. I enjoyed it. You can clearly tell the favs of the judges. Did you catch simon's dorky look while paula was talking? he looked in la-la land.
Kev: I guess since he is underage his groupies being underage are ok too. Love that he thinks he's the sex symbol of the show. The sneakers stuck out too much but hey, im not into footwear, right? he really enjoyed that song and it was fun to watch. They better keep him on just for the fun factor. I dont like simon but me thinks that kev got a bit too cocky at this point in the game.
Kat: didn't anyone tell you that dress makes you look heavier than you are? And what's with that tassel? Did you just graduate? Nice to see you got some spiders on your eyes too. (i hate them though). I liked the song a lot but I'm biased. I guess we all know where at least one spot on her is :)
Taylor: even I knew the song and he did it well. Though I'm not sure if his movement on stage are those of an idol. Glad they didnt make him dye his hair.
Paris: did all the right stuff, she will be around a long time. Glad she went back to her original hair. Much better. I'm not prude but didnt think the slit was appropriate.
Chris: great song choice, I thought it was very appropriate. Paula had a great comment " i sit back every week and dont worry.' Draw your own conclusions.

Yikes I think Melissa is gone after that performance...not so good. She got a little better at the end but bad at the start.
I think Kevin is probably gone after that... He couldn't handle the notes.
I thought Katharine did really well and looked oh so yummy!! :D
Paris did really well to but her interview with Ryan was a little weird with her signing, I know she's excited so I will let it pass. :D

Taylor Hicks, will you marry me? I am crazy about him!
I thought Ace and Pickler were the worst two of the night...despite forgetting lyrics I didn't think Melissa sounded bad. But, since I don't think America is ready to vote out Ace and Kellie, Melissa will be going home.

Ace really exposed himself tonight, and not in a way that would make justapixel happy either :p

Couldn't agree more. I've been an Ace fan since Father Figure, but tonight was just bad! Taylor's new haircut suited him perfectly - please don't color it. Kellie looked like a fish out of water. Some of the stylists are not too good I'm thinking.

Ace - sucked
Kelly - sucked (bumkin act is beyond annoying. Real classy trailer park boob hoist)
Elliot -annoying and the camera angle was just scary
Mandisa -didn't feel it tonight, needs to singing something with out screaming it for once.
Bucky - sucked monkey butt. Just get your constipated self off of my TV
Melissa - Good golly! Sharp, flat, just plain crap
Lisa - who? Disney is back in town? Go home!
Kevin - The joke needs to end.
Katherine - ok vocal, what was up with the slutty, pregnant mennonite dress?
Taylor - like Taylor except for when he screams like cookie monster.
Paris - can't stand this little muppet. Started off singing like a 60 year old lady and then finished like an 8 year old. The singing after the song was just pretentious in the most annoying manner possible
Chris - didn't like the arrangement, the band was too loud and he bleated like a sheep more than he sang. some one needs to tell these kids to stop trying to manufacture the vibrato.
Paula, please take your journey somewhere other than my TV. Randy, the Arsineo Hall Show has long since bombed. Simon, get a collared shirt.

I think those who hate Bucky have already made up their mind, regardless of how he performs. Most of those who have made up their minds about him base most of their opinion on how he looks, not how he sings. I think he was pretty good - probably one of the best of the first half or so. He'll be safe for several more weeks. (Hopefully they do something with the hair though - Simon was dead on.)
Chris, Katharine, and Lisa were the best for me... worst three were Ace, Elliot, and Kevin. Hopefully Kevin leaves, but I actually predict Elliot leaving.

Ace - I've already forgotten what song he sang... very average at best.
Kelly - booorrriiinnnggg, and I can't stand her naivete (I think it's mostly an act, but maybe she really is that ignorant?)
Elliot - wow, I had to switch to standard definition, and still had to avert my eyes - looks like some sort of mythical creature - troll, or something similar.
Mandisa - her worst performance I've seen - she apparently only sings well when she's doing the booming Aretha-style singing, and this song didn't have enough of that.
Bucky - Simon stole my thunder on his hair - so distracting I couldn't pay attention to the song.
Melissa - I thought she was the best of the night (up to that point in the show), but that's not saying a whole bunch.
Lisa - I liked her energy, but she doesn't seem to have much rhythym.
Kevin - Please, please, please... STOP VOTING FOR HIM, AMERICA! He's a total joke.
Katharine - By far the best up to that point, and one of the top performances of the night. I liked the top third of the dress - the rest of it looked like something that Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies would have worn. Too much eye makeup, too, but she's a cutie no matter what she's wearing or not wearing.
Taylor - Very good tonight, no complaints, but I can see how some would be annoyed by some of his mannerisms.
Paris - She's got the ability to sing well, but too much Fantasia-isms are coming through (I hate Fantasia). I thought she was the favorite going into the Hollywood stage of things, but so far she hasn't matched her first audition performance.
Chris - I liked it... obviously the best possible song that he could have picked.
So... Katharine, Taylor, and Chris were the best tonight, in my opinion.

I think those who hate Bucky have already made up their mind, regardless of how he performs. Most of those who have made up their minds about him base most of their opinion on how he looks, not how he sings.Well, it's not a radio competition... looks have always played a HUGE role in contests like this. You don't have to be the best-looking guy or girl on the planet, but you have to have some sort of physical "likability" in order to win. The only winner that I didn't think had much of it was Fantasia, but she did have a warm smile, huge personality, etc., even though she annoyed the hell out of me personally.

I pretty much agree with most everyone on the singing (Katharine, Chris, Taylor aka my soon-to-be-fiance as the standouts), so I'll just comment on a couple of style issues. :D
Katharine: If Kelly was Dolly Parton, you were Loretta Lynn. I swear you were wearing the living room drapes of my childhood, complete with a big band across the bottom. Wretched.
Taylor: Just Say No (to dye).
Bucky: Ok, perhaps a little Jessica Simpson-ish on the hair, but I'll take that over stringy and dirty any day.
Kevin: Go. Home. Now.
Ace: Try leaving your shirt untucked. Just once.
Paris: Cute cute cute!!

So, since I agree with the best singers majority vote, here's what I think otherwise.
Bucky -- please go home, and even though I hated the ponytail it was MILES better than the curls you wore tonight.
Paris -- my 12 year-old thought you were 9 tonight in that "interview" piece. And then you came out to sing and looked like you were 30. How old are you?
Taylor -- leave the grey alone; if my grey looked that great I'd never dye again.
Kevin -- the eye makeup was just embarassing but you made it worse with your 'tude to Simon
Melissa -- bye, wish it had been last week.
Mandisa -- the shoe shtick was tacky but the dress was a big improvement over some of the earlier outfits
Get some new stylists!

Anyone noticed they dubbed Melissa's vocals during the recap at the end. Actually, I don't even think they dubbed it. If you watch the performance carefully, I think it was from a dress rehearsal. No biggie, but not particularly fair, I think. They could have easily not shown that part of the performance.
It's PREMONITION, damnit.

The recap at the end always has been from the dress rehearsal, not the live performance. Most times the two performances are mostly the same, so it really isn't that noticable.

Ace - Bad, but he'll make it through
Kelly - Bad, but she'll make it through
Elliot - This was his week to shine...and he didn't. I was very dissapointed
Mandisa - She can sing, but my wife and I agree that her weight is distracting. She's really a beautiful girl. She'd look great if she dropped a few.
Bucky - I like him still, but he's got no shot of winning.
Melissa - I thought it was terrible, my wife loved it...go figure.
Lisa - She really is just too choreographed. Probably comes from her days on stage. Boring.
Kevin - Actually not boring, but also, the American Idol shouldn't make me laugh when he performs.
Katherine - One difference between her and Kelly Clarkson. Kelly portrayed the sweet girl (which she now does not thank goodness). Katherine portrays the sexy, somewhat slutty chick. I like it.
Taylor - The man is a PRO. Love everything he does.
Paris - She is really losing me here. Was it just me or was the crowd DEAD for her performance?
Chris - I don't think Simon knew that the Red Hot Chili Peppers did that version. I think he thought Chris made it up himself. But I LOVED it. This guy didn't sell out and sing "Ribbon in the Sky" or something. He needs a band and a record deal and he's golden.
One other thing to note...WHO ARE THE STYLISTS FOR THIS SHOW???? Bucky's hair, Lisa's hair, Katharine's dress, Elliots' hair, Kelly's whole Dolly look, Paris's whole look, and thinking about dying Taylor's hair?!!!! Fire every last one of them. The only guy who looked better was Kevin!
Bottom 3: Melissa, Kevin, Bucky
Going Home: Kevin

Ace - Terrible song choice, but hes so cute, who cares? ;)
Kelly - Nothing special, but bad, just boring
Elliot - Just creepy to me
Mandisa - Too much screaming, but still one of the best singers here.
Bucky - Yick. Hair is awful. Agree with Simon.
Melissa - Awful. Anyone who forgets the words during a competition needs to be disqualified immediately. And to add insult to injury, she sang it horribly.
Lisa - I already forgot her performance..how did she do?
Kevin - What the hell? I certainly heard something different than Randy and Paula. He sounds like a motor running. Absolutely horrible.
Katherine - I didn't think she was as great as they thought, but she was ok. That dress was awful..she looked pregnant.
Taylor - Best of the night for me. He's just entertaining
Paris - I will say that she sings good, but shes just not my style.
Chris - Next best of the night behind Taylor. Did a great job!
Randy - You are getting ridiculous
Paula - You have way surpassed ridiculous
Simon - You were pretty much right on last night. A little overboard and gushy over Katherine, though.

McPhine finally showed off some of her assets in more than one way. Too bad 3/4 of the dress looked silly. That other 1/4 looked great.
Kevin was better than usual, but still really bad. He is by far the worst singer in the competition.
I really did not like Mandissa last night. I thought it was the second worst of the night, after Kevin.
I like Melissa's tone, and she finally looked (thank god for stylists?) but she was not good either.

I think those who hate Bucky have already made up their mind, regardless of how he performs. Most of those who have made up their minds about him base most of their opinion on how he looks, not how he sings.
I assure you my assessment of Bucky is based entirely upon how he grunts out of tune. It is painful to listen too. He sounds like the constipated voice of Leroy Jenkins of WoW fame. It just hurts. He needs to take some fibre-con and move on.
Taylor is the man. I would buy an album of his in a heartbeat. So, like Bo Bice, I guess it doesn't matter if he wins or not.....I'm still buyin'.
I wish they would do a Journey or 70's/80's rock/supergroup night so that someone can do a Journey song from when Randy was playing bass for them (I believe it was the Raised on Radio album...I think) and then they can put pictures on screen like this:

Dude I don't know......keeping it real, that look didn't work for me at all. Seemed like she tried to cover up her booty and covered most of her body instead. She has a beautiful face, but the body's not happening. Her face and top half is a ten for sure. Her lower half is much lower.

Mandisa's problem is that none of the so-called stylist they have on the show knows how to dress a woman that weighs more than 100 pounds.
You DON'T put skin all thight clothes and you try to hide the arms a little. Thight pants are our worst ennemy.
You try to focus on your assets instead of bringing the eye on your a--.

Pickler is annoying, more and more every week.
Nice cankles, Mandisa
Kevin: 2 words came to mind watching him dance: William Hung
Paris is only liked cuz Randy knows her granny
The most impressive thing about Paula Abdul??? Her ability to say the exact same BS 12 different ways. So tired of her. When she said she liked Ace, I was thinking of 2 more words: Corey Clark.
Simon looked bored... he was playing with his lips, and when it was his turn, he would pop his head up like a velociraptor and look around, "huh? it's my turn?"

Just my initial reactions before I taint them with all the excellent analysis here:
I thought Katherine was excellent. I thought Paris did well too. I thought Kevin Covais was horrible. He was the worst by a country mile.
I have been a fan of Chris, but I had the completely opposite assessment of the judges. I don't want the contestants just re-inventing and shoe-horning every song to fit their comfort zone. Even though this goes against my own logic where I say it is completely unnecessary to show range.
I think just hard-rocking Bridge Over Troubled Waters in Week 10 is not going to get it done.
I think everyone else was so-so.

I definitely think both Gedeon and Ayla should have been in the Top 12 over Kevin and Melissa. I cannot believe Melissa screwed up the lyrics, not once but twice, and still got a "this was your best performance" review. You've got to be kidding me.
Kevin: 2 words came to mind watching him dance: William Hung
She bangs! She bangs!
Seriously, though, Kevin could have a real chance at extending his 15 minutes just like William Hung. I am sure there are plenty of 12 year olds out there who would race to get a Kevin Covais album.
Maybe Kevin can even get a get a guest spot on an episode of Arrested Development like William Hung and his hung jury....er....no...wait.....Burn in Hell Fox!

Loved Taylor, and he performed my favorite Stevie Wonder song. Loved Katharine, but she was wearing way too much makeup. She's gorgeous, there's no need to cake it on like that. And someone needs to tell her to lose the maternity style. She's worn several shirts like that but the dress was just too much. I also thought Paris did pretty well (other than that bad note near the end), the best I've seen since her audition.
The judges seemed so focused on Melissa forgetting the words that they didn't realize she sang most of the song out of tune. That was worse than Kevin, which is not easy. Oh Kevin, have we ever had a contestant that the judges just laugh at like that? How insulting. Randy is just sitting there cracking up at the guy. Pickler's act is getting more and more transparent. I'm not buying it.

According to this website (http://www.dialidol.com) Ace is predicted to be in the bottom three.
Not that I'm happy about that, just sayin'.
(NOTE: I spoiler tagged the quoted post because some might think it's a spoiler. It's only a prediction, so I'm not sure it qualifies as spoiler, but just in case...)
It's interesting that the site uses a busy-signal frequency to predict the votes. They claim 83% accuracy with that method.
And I was happy to see Taylor Hicks in the lead :D but saddend to see Kellie Pickler in second.

But kev is getting too much tude....the remark about simon was really out of line at this point. I am NOT a simon fan but did think he did a good job not giving kev more ammunition and just shut up. Kev's at the point at which you should be professional no matter what. But he's a kid so I guess we had to expect such a childish retort.

regarding spoilers..it's really not possible to spoil this show at this stage so be free and fly. Everything (that counts) is live and unless someone has the results in hand from the phone company, everything truly is pure speculation :)

Two hours of a big bag of suck and I don't have the attention span for it. I've already forgotten the first few who sang.
I was <hearting> Simon though.
I LOL'ed with the Jessica Simpson hair comment.
Katharine looked pretty, sang great, but her outfit was hideous.
What a joke Kevin was. I thought he got nasty with Simon at the end. Does he REALLY think he's that good? Does he not get that he's a joke? So let's all vote for him to be the next AI.
Stevie Wonder looked like he enjoyed Taylor Hicks and didn't know what to say about Kevin.
Chris- I thought I was going to have an anime seizure with all those lights!

Ace - only heard the secong half of the song. It sounded "interesting", like he was singing with someone else's voice.
Kelly - Awful. I was bored. I'm also starting to believe the rumors that she's not as naive as she lets on. She said in her interview that she really wasn't familiar with Stevie Wonder. If that's the case then why was she wiping tears from her eyes when he first walked in the room?
Elliot - I thought he did a great job. His voice is perfectly suited for Stevie Wonder. I really wish he would let them mess up his hairline. It would go a long way towards making him look more presentable.
Mandisa - Loved her performance, as usual. I did think the bit with Ryan before-hand with her shoes was scripted to pad out the two hours.
Bucky - I thought he did a pretty good job considering he was singing music that's completely opposite from what he normally does. As for the hair, I liked that it looked clean for a change.
Melissa - Ugh. I can't believe they gave Ayla the boot and she made it to the top 12.
Lisa - Great job.
Kevin - Paula says she looks around and everyone is smiling. That's because they're laughing at him. He can't sing and does not belong up there. Was it my imagination or was he copping an attitude after Simon gave his opinion? "I don't expect much from him". I usually like his personality, but it seems like he's getting a big head.
Katherine - I thought she sounded great.
Taylor - It would be awsome if he walked away with second place so he could maintain his own style.
Paris - I really liked her performance, but I did not like the singing afterwards. She went down a couple notches in my book after that.
Chris - Best of the night.

Tough, Tough night. Kellie may have actually been the worst performance, but I doubt she will get the boot. Elliot sang well, but really, really blended in to the bunch and was certainly not one of the best. Kevin actually sang as well as I've heard him last night, but still clearly out of his league. He is really playing up his schtick though and his fans will keep him going. The good where Katharine, Taylor and Chris. Chris rocked the house and was much better than the rest.
Bottom three ....
Elliot, Melissa, kevin

I see a lot of predictions in this thread, including some that refer to the ease or difficulty in getting through on the phone lines... no need for them to be spoilerized, in my opinion.

She wasn't familiar with his work, that's different than being unfamiliar with the person or his status. I'm not too familiar with his work except for a couple of songs, and I would have been starstruck too.

I heard that one of the 12 finalists will be sent home tonight!!
Maybe it was because the Wonder songs are so tough for rookie singers but I am still shocked by all the suckage that occurred last night. That was a lot more than I expected and not the kind that you hope for on March 14th ;)

Chicken Little is ridiculous, I can't believe he's still here.
Do you notice that the band seems to be much better for some contestants than they are for others? Bucky was way out of his league with Superstition, but the band was really lame on that tune...it just seemed to drag, with no punch at all. Compare that to the arrangement and backing they gave Chris, on a pretty comparable tune...I couldn't believe it was the same musicians!

I dont like the idea of a band at all. I think they should take out the lyrics and let the original CD fly minus the words. Also, not so much this year, but previously the band drowned out the singers at times and it was annoying
Does anyone think that the rest of the group "hates" Kev and his little attitude? If he just let that one thing slip through on stage, what do you bet he's worse 'off camera?' He had a chance to shine as an adult but can't keep the kid out. That attitude is for first cuts, not for final 12.

My exact feelings about Kevin - is this guy believing his own hype? He's a sympathy date who thinks it's "True Love". Can we get back to some semblance of reality, and eject this guy, please? Is this some kind of protest vote, going for the anti-Idol, like big Scott a season or so back? That's the only way I can explain it.
As for Melissa, I like the sound of her voice and find her more attractive every week, even if she did forget some words ;)

Yeah, I found that funny. They make a big deal of how this is the week they finally get the stylists, and man what a disaster that was. I mean, you have the big thing last week about whether or not Katherine's pregnant, and you send her out in that dress?
And I just keep waiting for Paris' head to fall off the way she moves it from side to side.

Man, oh man, I can't believe how bad this group did.
Ace -This guy's male-model looks are only going to carry him so far, then his lack of singing ability will get him booted.
Kelly - I don't know if her naivte is genuine of not, but that was a dangerous dress to put the likes of her into! She has a niche as far as singing goes, but it won't take her all the way.
Elliot - Needs more than a make-over. I like his singing, but, sadly, he is just a homely little fellow, not AI material.
Mandisa - Sang her shoes off! But it is obvious that Simon doesn't want her to win, he does NOT want a fat person to be AI. Not his idea of a winner.
Bucky - Dude, take a hint and get a haircut. It will get you more offers after you get voted off.
Melissa - Average, just average across the board.
Lisa - Cute all right, and she can sing, but is almost too polished. What's with all the baby professionals this season?
Kevin - Unlike some of the others, I was not offended by his sniping a Simon. It is almost a tradition, and I am sure he knows his days are numbered, so why not go for all the gusto he can get.
Katherine - I "guess" she is okay. She is pretty and has a good voice, but she still doesn't impress me as having anything exceptional going on.
Taylor - A professional. Really should not be here as he just slid in under the age requirements. Everybody's favorite, but he won't win.
Paris - Please god make her stop. A Stepford singer, she scares the bejesus out of me. Reminds me of Michael Jackson, and look how that turned out.
Chris - Excellent rocker, but there again, not a whole lot in the charisma department. If only Ace had his talent. That would be an American Idol.
Who's going home? Bucky or Melissa.

I haven't read any comments here about the theme of the night last night. I really don't like when they pick a theme and force every contestant to sing a particular artist/songwriter.

You want the show to be FAIR?????
People, It's NOT A TALENT SHOW, IT'S AN ENTERTAINMENT SHOW!
That's why Kevin is still in it! There are only three things that matter with AI, ratings, merchandising and more ratings (oh, and eventually marketability of the winner). It's not MEANT to be fair otherwise we'd all be watching Star Search or something. It has to be controvertial to be successful. How else do you explain allowing the Brittenham twins back in the competition and then even invite them to appear on a later show when they made headlines!
