Hi,
I changed my phone service to Vonage and the first 4 times connecting to Tivo to update the guide i hade no problum. But this week i can get this thing to work?? Tivo support says they dont support Vonage. So, what do i do? I gusee what is really killing me is that i had no issues with connecting. But i tried over 50 TIMES!! i would get to the download section and half way through i would get the error message "call interrupted".
I have a wired netwrok in my house so should i
1. network my tivo (wired)
2. if i do network will i be able to update the tivo information via my cable modem (concast)
3. Is this hard to do. I have a Vonage voip modem.

any help will do

thanks Brad

Search around for Vonage. There are many incantations you can try but I believe that the results are largely random.

Have you talked to Vonage? They're one the few VOIP providers that claim (or maybe used to claim?) that modems will work with their service. So you might as well hold them to it.

Alternately, use the network. It will work if you get the right adaptor (check the TiVo Inc site for the latest list of what works) and don't have any obscure router issues.

I don't understand. You obviously have a broadband internet connection, otherwise you wouldn't have Vonage. Yet you are implying that you are still running a phone connection to your TiVo, and sending the call through Vonage. Why??

Get a USB network adapter for your TiVo, and connect it directly to your router (assuming you have one, and if not, get one!). No need to go through your Vonage box at all, and no need to worry about any possible incompatibilities.

Could be that bradglaberson is using a DirecTV TiVo. The USB port isn't enabled on those.

True. But if that were the case, he wouldn't need to dial out at all to get program data. (DirecTiVos get their data from the satellite, and only need to dial out for PPV and the like. I have friends that haven't used their DirecTiVo's phone connection in over a year and a half--still works just fine.)

I have Vonage as well and after hours of trying numerous settings, I just went to Amazon and bought a USB adapter. It worked perfectly and now I just use my wireless adapter to connect to my network and download the guide.

You can run a physical wire to the router (which, depending on its location, could mean a long ugly wire running across your floor from the TiVo), or try a wireless bridge or powerline configuration. Then just set your router to act as a DHCP server (if it isn't already) and you shouldn't have to do anything else. Otherwise, you may have to set a static IP address for the TiVo, but that's no big deal, either.
