I'm still not sure why the PTC is worried about this show -- "Wheel of Fortune" with the shopping-for-ceramic-dalmatians element would confuse any kids tuning in, and then "The Great Space Coaster" would completely baffle and bewilder them.
But, hey, I like the nostalgia. :D

I have to admit that baffled and bewildered me. What was that a reference to?

From http://tgscoaster.com/theshow/theshow.html:
The Great Space Coaster was a daily half-hour children's series combining live action, music, puppets and animations in a fast-paced and entertaining format. Interaction among three talented young people: Roy, Francine, Danny and ten wacky puppets characters (Baxter, Goriddle Gorilla, Edison The Elephant, Knock Knock The Woodpecker, Gary Gnu, M.T. Promises, Baffle and The Huggles Fluffy, Puffy and Scuffy) with original songs, games, travel and reading adventures provides a multi-faceted program with a sound educational foundation that children choose to watch for entertainment.
Or, if you prefer a little less self-congratulation, from http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=471206:
Humans Francine ("Fran" to her friends), Roy and Danny mingled with puppets big and small to teach kids lessons about life and the joy of discovery. Among the non-human cast were excitable Goriddle Gorilla, clown looking Baxter, Edison Elephant, prissy and daffy bird Knock-Knock, and the mean M.T. Promises. The Huggles ("What's snappening?") joined the cast later in the show's run, but the real star was a green, hairy fellow named Gary Gnu (accent on the "G"). Gary wasn't any cuter or cuddlier than his fellow puppets, but he got to host the show's news segment, giving birth to the unforgettable catchphrase, "NO g-news is GOOD g-news, with Gary...Gaaa-nu." The show's format featured stories, songs (many performed as music videos by the human stars), skits, and short films viewed on Roy's hand-held magic screen. Another regular feature was Speed Reader, who, according to his theme song, could do a handstand and read everything on the newsstand. Occasionally, celebrities like Sugar Ray Leonard and Sally Struthers stopped by to visit.
The scene in FG was a precise re-creation of the animated opening credits and theme song, with Peter playing the role of Baxter, who pilots the titular Coaster through a fanciful depiction of space to pick up the cast members, teaching children a valuable lesson about taking rides from creepy, giant-headed strangers dressed as clowns.

The show ran from 1981 to 1986. On PBS stations, if I'm not mistaken. And Francine was kinda hot.

Awwww the 80's when all the good hippies from the 60's made the most confusing and trippy children's shows ever.

It was a syndicated commercial show, actually -- I remember watching it on independent Channel 44 in the Tampa Bay area (and I've got an old TV Guide that backs me up -- weekdays at 8:00 A.M., at least in the 1981-82 season).

Loved this ep. The Alec Baldwin thing was awesome as was the Wheel of Fortune. How long has it been since they bought things after each round with the floating head bit? I loved how Peter tried to buy himself.
Brian: Do you have anything, in your, you know, underpants area that needs checking?
Lois: What?
Brian: Pull down your underpants.

ahhh yes, and don't forget the Malcolm in the Middle skit where the dad clubs the mom with the freezer door to be free... that was hilarious.

20 years, more or less.
To be really nitpicky, Peter was shown shopping for prizes after winning the bonus round, but that's not how it worked; he would have preselected one of the more expensive prizes (it would have had a gold star next to it), and would have won it automatically by solving the bonus round puzzle.
And to be really, really nitpicky, the music that was playing as he shopped was the opening/closing theme, not one of the various "shopping" themes that they played. But I guess they figured licensing one piece of authentic old "Wheel of Fortune" music was expensive enough. :D
Can you tell I watched "Wheel of Fortune" a lot more often in the olden days than I do now?

Bryan Cranston is credited so they actually had the dad.
Alex Trebek was also credited.
I get a kick when they get the real actors/people to voice the bit parts they use.
