View Full Version : TTG Transfers Interrupted

My installation of Tivo Desktop worked fine until I installed Galleon 2.2. It had worked with Galleon 2.1 fine also. However, now the transfers get interrupted. Sometimes after just a few megs, sometimes after a few hundred megs. I have even left it to run all night to transfer a 30 min recording and it still locks up. I have uninstalled Galleon and uninstalled/reinstalled TIVO Desktop.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Using a Netgear Tivo Compatible wireless with a linksys router. It all worked fine before.
Thanks,
Rod

Do you have Nvidia chipset mobo? Have you changed any drivers there?

Thanks, but that's not the problem. I have an Asus Radeon.

Thanks, but that's not the problem. I have an Asus Radeon.

I wasn't asking your Video Card make. There is a problem with some motherboards onboard NIC that use the Nvidia Nforce Chipset. (Nvidia makes more than Video Cards nowadays).

But it probably is NOT your problem. Just threw it out there.

When a wireless connection that used to work suddenly starts dropping connections, it is often a sign of interference from a new wireless network having been set up nearby. It could also be another wireless or cordless device that uses the 2.4GHz band, being put into service nearby. If you have a laptop with wireless, try a site survey and see what is out there. Simply changing channels on your router might also help.

I suspect that the problem appearing with the update to Galleon is coincidental, but it may not be. If channel changing doesn't help, try going back to Galleon 2.1.

Thanks Mark. I've changed freqs. I'll see if that works.

Nope, that didn't do it either. Transfers still get interrupted. Any other suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Rod, I am still curious about your motherboard chipset. Your problem sounds very similiar to the others with the Nvidia chipset. If you tell us your computer make/model we could problably deduce the chipset for you.

I'll check it out when I get home and let you know.
I was able to get Galleon 2.10 to transfer a half hour show a couple of nights ago. I let it run all night and it picked up the whole program.

I'll let you know on the chipset I'll check my specs.

I wonder if some of these problems are the NIC. I have 3 systems and only one of them works with Tivo2Go transfers to/from the PC's. One has Nvidia Nforce but I'm running an Intel Pro/1000 XT series and it stops transfers at various times. Using HTTPS even. Another has a Marvel Yukon NIC and it does the same but is not an Nvidia board (Asus P4P800SE with Intel chipsets). The computer that does work is an Asus P4C800 with an Intel Pro/1000 CT (a bit different fro the XT in th Nforce board). That one works on transfers. Since all 3 systems are different as far as motherboards, I haven't narrowed it down to which component is the problem. I did turn off TCP/IP Checksum on the Intel XT and it sped up transfers but still stopped after about 200megs. All systems are same XP Pro with SP2. My next step is probably to get another CT NIC and try that in the Nforce board.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
I have an ASUS P4S800 motherboard with an SIS 648FX (and) SIS 9636 chipset (at least the motherboard documentation showed both). The computer was assembled by an outfit called Nutrend. I have also upgraded my network to a MIMO g system that automatically changes channel to avoid interference. I tried with both the TIVO desktop and with Galleon to do a transfer. Both only got to 265 M or so even running all night. I'm going to try and roll back to Galleon 2.1 again and see if that helps.

Wellllll,
Looks like my problem was with Zone Alarm all along. I had been disabling it and turning it off, but it must have been still causing problems. Finally, in desperation I went ahead and uninstalled it and I was able to transfer a 30 min. program last night without a hitch. I narrowed it down by recognizing that I was having the same problem downloading headers from newsgroups. It would stop part way and drop from a good speed to zero. Further testing will follow. I had also uninstalled Microsoft Anti-Spyware previously. I'm using Adaware and Spybot too so that should be enough. Next I'll try going with Galleon 2.2 again (once I get all my transfers done).

This whole thing was a mystery to me even though I had authorized Tivo Desktop and Galleon on the firewall. It did cause me to go ahead and update my router and adapters so I'm getting better speeds as a plus. I also don't see the other 4 wireless networks from my neighbors which I think were causing some interference.

By the way, I have been burning compilations of some 30 minute shows to DVD using:
1. Direct Show Dump (works really fast and is free to boot) changes to MPEG
2. Videoredo to edit out the commercials and recode to DVD format.
3. Compile and create the DVD with Nero Vision Express.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.
