I just purchased a new 80-hour TiVo from Best Buy on Friday, and on the box it showed that it was made in Mexico. I didn't give this any thought until I opened the box and saw that the unit was manufactured in January 2005. It made me wonder where the box had been sitting for the past year. My friend went the next day, and Best Buy had put out new boxes. The one he purchased said it was made in China. These are apparently the newer units as his had a recent manufacturing date.

Are there any known differences between the two versions? Should I be concerned about my "new" box that was manufactured over a year ago?

Thanks.

The only difference of note is that your friend's box probably already has the 7.2.1 software loaded on it, whereas yours probably has an older version that will update when you dial in. I have not seen anyone suggest that there are other differences. Most TiVos in the past were made in Mexico.
