I was wondering when we'd see a show get cancelled, or have an order cut, before it even airs. That time is now...
The Evidence, hasn't even aired yet and it's order was cut down to 6 from 13.
Unbelievable.... Why can't the networks let US decide what is good and what isn't?

I agree, it's aggravating. Seinfeld, Cheers, and Raymond all started out as low rated comedies in their first seasons and gave the show a chance to marinate with the fans. Even Two and a Half Men started off very slow.
We live in the day and age of advertising execs with itchy trigger fingers. If the ratings aren't coming quickly enough, it's "cut city".

Well ratings not coming quickly can't be the issue with The Evidence, it hasn't even aired yet.

Dang... it looked interesting by the one ad that I saw; I did give it a SP just to catch it.

The nerve of the networks to do with their product as they see fit!

No one questions their right to dump a product. We are just questioning their timing. Hopefully you will be able to appreciate the difference.
There are some shows that were dumped early, only to the regrets of the network execs themselves who admit they may have been premature (Police Squad, the Dana Carvey Show, etc.).

Yeah. I saw this on Vitos thread. Ridiculous. I was looking forward to checking this show out.
New Adventures of Old Christine is still on tonight, right? It looks funny from the previews, but I worry that I will go to watch it and something else will be on instead.

That is a silly comment. As mentioned above, the networks can do as they see fit. The reality is they picked the show to broadcast on the air over many other programs. At best they have no faith or confidence in their own abilities to determine what might make a good television show. I feel that is a bad characteristic for a television network or those who work for one.
It is not like the public made them order 13 episodes of "The Evidence", and they rebeled and cut it to six. They ordered the 13 episodes themselves.
Perhaps they were not happy with how things were progressing and wanted to hedge their bets. It is a business. I just think that the complete inability to determine what a good tv show is, or the inability to support those shows it chose and believes is good is not good for the tv business. A lot of those other shows were championed by strong programmers who believed in shows. I think for the most part the people in charge are wishy-washy and easily persuaded and thrown off their convictions.

I am as well. Looks like a pretty different kind of show, one where the viewers have to use their heads instead of just watch.
Seems like a very cool premise.
Maybe it's first showing will get good ratings and they'll have to bump their order back to 13. :)

This whole process of cancelling shows after one or two shows or even before it airs reeks of network incompetence, in my opinion.
I mean, why does a network order a bunch of episodes to be made, then change their mind without even giving it a chance. If network peeps didn't think folks would watch it, how does it get to the point of being scheduled to air at all?
How many people screen these shows to decide if they are 'worthy' to begin with?
It just seems silly and it makes the network look stupid and fickle in my opinion.
Whatever,

Clearly it wasn't good enough for us the American viewers. I applaud you, television executives, for keeping me from watching bad television.
Now back to Ice Skating with the Stars.
Networks have the right to have an itchy trigger finger when it comes to new series, but I think it's odd that they dump shows early only to give us another show that will be dumped early.
Are TV execs becoming like movie execs? They throw out all kinds of stuff to see what we'll like but they don't pay attention to what we've already expressed. Case in point: movie receipts are down overall. Family-oriented movies do very well but not many of them are made.
Regarding mrpantstm's note about Ice Skating with the Stars: I've never watched it (don't plan on it either) but at least it's not a typical sitcom depending on the typical plot-lines and stereotypical characters. I believe part of why reality TV has boomed because most American are tired of the same old thing from sitcoms and dramas.

Maybe the networks saved you the trouble of watching seven episodes of steaming pile of poop.

Which is fine, but if it was a steaming pile of poop, how did it (Evidence) originally get scheduled to begin with, and how is it they still are going to air (supposedly) half of the episodes that they were going to originally air?

Probably b/c the pilot was decent, the order was placed but now that the other episodes have been produced, it's evident it's a big bag of suck or something.

ABC got too cocky last year with Desperate Housewives, Lost, and Gray's Anatomy, and now is running roughshod over any show that doesn't get #1 ratings out of the box. Look what's been going on with Commander in Chief. If that show makes it to another season, I'd be very surprised.

I totally don't get that either. I personally have never watched the show (don't care much for political dramas), but it seemed to be doing nicely in ratings. What the heck?
