View Full Version : Sudden problem with two TIVO's and transfers

We've had 2 TIVO's for two years on a wireless set up that's worked perfectly - thanks to you guys. The ONLY complaint we've ever had is the transfer speed between the TIVO's is very slow. We simply do the transfers at night, watch the show the next day. It is quite impossible to watch a show while it is being transferred. The signal strength on both TIVO's indicates that it fluctuates between 66% and 78%.

But NOW we have a new problem that is quite bothersome. We are able to transfer shows from the downstairs TVIO to the upstairs TIVO, but not visa versa. When we try to transfer from teh upstairs unit to the down stairs unit, it hangs on the "this may take a minute" screen. Would stay that way for hours if we didn't cancel the transfer. Then it shows as if it's waiting in our queue in the To Do list, like it's inline behind another transfer - but there is no other transfer in the queue.

The only thing that has changed in our setup (and this may be coincidental, but did occur at the same time the problem with TIVO started) is we purchased a new desktop computer, which is the one that the wireless network is hard wired into. I'm not positive, but I'm not sure that the two TIVO's would transfer at all during the week or so that we didnt' have a computer (though all other TIVO functions worked, and the laptop with the wireless card worked fine). Now, I've jiggled things with the wireless units and turned TIVO units off and reconnected (it seemed to download a lot of stuff), and I've got downstairs transferring to upstairs, but downstairs will not transfer FROM upstairs. It still hangs on the "this may take a moment" screen.

Any ideas? Is this is a signal strength issue, maybe? If so, how do we improve this?
