I called. It's $34.95 for the basic package, and $12.95 per DVR. I currently pay $44.98 per month for 2 DiTiVo's, and with them it would be $60 + taxes.

That was an easy decision.

Do they have an area coverage map or a planned deployment timeline? I live in the sticks and have little hope of ever getting new technology, but it would be nice to hear if they planned on coing out my way before 2010. :)

Let's compare apples and apples: It's $34.95 for the expanded basic package, which is similar to Total Choice Plus ($49.99) and includes 20 HD channels (+9.99). Don't forget to factor in the DTV PVR fee (+$5.99) and the mirroring fee on that second receiver (+$4.99).

So a similar DirecTV package would run $70.96.

So FIOS TV would be about $10/month cheaper, allow you to record in HD, and require no up front costs.

The decision might not be as easy as you think.

Verizon won't disclose it, but here's where FiOS is available.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FiOS

FiOS TV is available in a subset therein.

I'd expect 2010 is a good guess.

I just got cable for internet a year ago. First one to hook up. FIOS may come to the island in my lifetime, but I am not putting any money on it.
