I reinstalled my OS and in the process of getting everything back running I am stuck. Previously I was able to play my tivo files using the free codecs from cole2k. I also had an old version of WinDVD that had codecs that worked. After reloading I loaded up those codecs and Media Player is still reporting that it cannot find a codec. So after a couple of hours I finally gave up and spent the $15 and purchase Intervideo's DVDXPack. Media Player still will not play any tivo files. Any Ideas?

Also I have been able to play DVD's the whole time. The Windows Video Decoder Checkup reports that I am using the Intervideo Video Decoder as the default.

You say you resintalled your OS. You did remember to reinstall TivoDesktop correct? Tivo files won't play w/o it.

Yes, I am actually using the Tivo Desktop app to transfer the videos to my PC. The files actually play the sound in media player as well but it reports that it cannot find a codec for the video.

What does Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility say about your setup?

:D Gotta stop multitasking!

I sympathize with your problem. My workstation at work is doing the same thing. No matter what I install, it gives me the red exclamation point in WMP and no worky. :(

Not a fix, but does Media Player Classic work?

IIRC, this player uses its own built-in codec.

That is really interesting. Media Player Classic can play the Tivo files. Looks like Media Player 10 has a bug.

Nah, it probably isn't WMP 10. Something with the codecs on your system is screwed up.

Try giving RadLightFilter Manager http://www.free-codecs.com/download/RadLight_Filter_Manager.htm a whirl. But be careful, it can really dork your machine (even worse!)

I reinstalled the OS again, then loaded the DVDXPack from Intervideo and the installed Tivo desktop. Still reported the codec problem. Then I patched the system to the latest from windowsupdate and updated media player to 10. Still the same problem.

Am I missing something in the order? Isn't OS, codec, then TIVO the correct order? I have tried the free codecs with the same problem that is why I paid for the Intervideo ones. What company should I open a support call with? (Intervideo, Tivo, MS?)

Here are my jotted notes from last year when I was trying to figure out the proper order of installing codec with Nero...
