View Full Version : Converting ALL formats to feed back to TiVo?

I did a search, but didn't really find an answer.

I've recently been downloading video podcasts for viewing on my TiVo and have come across various annoying problems. I have K-Lite Codec pack installed (with the "Playback only" options).

WinAVI: It states I cannot convert .mov files without the quicktime codec. I have Quicktime installed. I tried installing Quicktime Alternative, but it gives me a registery error (despite being signed in as "administrator"). Besides, I really want to keep iTunes as my podcast program and I can't do that with Alternative installed. Also, and much more importantly, avi files converted with WinAVI always have serious lines in the picture when I try to watch it on my TV. I figure this is again a codec problem, but I don't know. It does work fine with m4v files.

Videora TiVo Converter: this works fast and good, but only on avi files. Anything else, it processes for a second and then says it's done without having really done anything.

TMPGEnc: last resort. It's really slow, but converts most things. Unfortunately, the most recent mov file didn't have any sound after conversion. Audio tends to be a normal issue with TMPGEnc, either it claims the input doesn't have sound or the output doesn't have any. This happens maybe 10-20% of the time.

I'm looking for a converter with the speed of a WinAVI/Videora, but the ability to convert avi, mov, m4v (anything!) without problems. I'm not looking for DVD quality output here either. I tried looking at videohelp.com, but didn't find any "all-in-one" options.

Any suggestions? Or a way to fix WinAVI? :(

I tried Super last night and that seemed to work pretty well. It's much closer to TMPGEnc in terms of slow speed, however.

72 views and no ideas, I guess?

Oh, I should also update the note about WinAVI and Quicktime alternative. I was finally able to get QT Alternative installed with the K-Lite Mega Codec pack, but still have the line problems with .avi files. And now the standard videocast H264 files start processing, but slow down to a crawl and pretty much freeze the program.

I can't win. :(
