I just Purchased Easy Media Creator 8 to edit and burn my Tivo files to DVD. Well, as far as I'm concerned they should call it HARD Media Creator 8. It works great with any video file EXCEPT Tivo files. My computer locks up and stalls when I try to even select a Tivo File. I have a very decent computer too...runs on a 2.4 GHZ. athlon 64....The only reason I bought this software was for the Tivo burn/edit feature. Is it just me? Is anyone having the same problem with the Tivo files and EMC 8?

Sadly I have to agree. I would have chosen Nero but I wanted to use the software Tivo suggested. I was told by sales that I could make my DVD menus look like Tivo menus. I dont see this function anywhere. I had a very hard time navigating thier site and when I clicked on help and searched for "Tivo" I received no hits. How can this be "recommended" by Tivo :-(. I will be returning the product tommorow. I hate to do that but I dont see any other option.

Actually the TiVo "recommended" software is Sonic MyDVD.

As for the topic at hand... Easy Media Creator is probably trying to open the .tivo file as if it were an MPEG file. Since the .tivo files are encrypted this will cause the program to get errors. What you should do is do a Google search for "DirectShow Dump" and go from there.

Try freeing your .tivo files first using DirectShow Dump (or VideoRedo). I use Nero Vision Express this way w/o any problems.

Edit: Dan beat me to it! :D

I tired Creater 8 and threw that in the trash. I now tried Sonic My DVD8. That sucks to. It has so many bugs in it, it keeps asking for my password and then telling me that it's no good. It burns slow, very slow. I mean like hours to burn one DVD.
I had used My DVD6 basic with the 2.0 version of Tivo and it seemed to work well, but you can't edit the commercials out and now I lost the dogone program.
Frustrated that Tivo recommends Sonic when it's such a pain to use.
Wondering if using the 2.2 version of Tivo might help.
Any ideas?

Hey Greg,
I thought Nero didn't support the Mpeg2?
I tried Nero 7, wonder if that's the same as what your using.

I have both Nero6 and Nero7. Both support MPEG-2 files. If yours does not, perhaps you have a crippled OEM edition.

Here are the different suites they made for Nero 6...

If you want a program that works really well for editing the commercials out of .tivo files try VideoReDo (http://www.videoredo.com). After that, for getting it onto a DVD, you have a few ways to go. One is to use a commercial DVD app, which will most likely force you to reencode the video since most TiVo videos are not technically DVD compliant. The other is to use a freeware program like DVD Styler (http://dvdstyler.sourceforge.net/) or GUI for dvdauthor (http://www.videohelp.com/~gfd/), which will allow you to use the "non-compliant" MPEG as is. The only problem with that is they can be a little quirky sometimes and the non-complaint DVDs will not play in every DVD player. (99% of them don't care, but there are still some that require the DVD to be complaint or they refuse to play them)

Thanks a mill Dan. I can finally edit out the commercials on my favorite programs and burn them to DVD the way it was meant to be. Dan's the man!

Maybe interested to know, the latest beta build of VR supports rewriting tivo headers back onto the file for TivoComeBack.
