After pulling the .tivo file off the Tivo to my PC and then using DirectShowDump, and after burning the resultant single *.mpg data file to a data only DVD using Nero, I'd like to then view the file on a home (non PC) DVD player.
I know such home players exist but can somebody tell me which ones?
Thx all

The CyberHome DVR1600 will do AVI Divx/Xvid... but wont do MPG. TOo bad because it would sure be nice if it did.

The best bet is to avoid the major players like JVC, Sony, etc. Try the off brands, many of them will play all kinds of formats of discs. Just go test them out at stores, be sure to take a CD-R and DVD-R with the videos on it (and make sure the videos are not pirated or obscene. many places will not let you play your own content so you will have to play nice to get them to allow it)

I have a Norcent DP-220 that plays MPG, VOB, DIVX, XVID.
try:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers
filter for MPEGISO
What is MPEG1/2 ISO in the DVD Players list?
MPEG1/2 ISO is if your standalone DVD Player supports MPEG1(VCD), MPEG2(SVCD,DVD) or/and VOB(DVD) files with no authoring, like you are able to select any MPG/MPEG/MPV/VOB files from the CD/DVD using a file browser and play them.

i have a phillips dvp 642, it will play pretty much any disk you put in it. got it for around $35 after using my $25 amazon rewards certificate

Another vote for the Phillips DVP 642. It plays nearly everything. Just copy the file to a CD-R/RW or DVD+/-R/RW and put it in the player. Highly recommended. Google the model number and you'll find a lot of fansites.

The DVP 642 will also play PAL disks if you enter the "secret" region-free code. Just google for DVP-642 and region-free.

Thanks for this thread.
I have been storing mpegs on DVDs, but my Sony won't play them. I put the DVD into the PC, drag a shortcut into TiVoRecordings and watch via TiVo. :)
I am not going to run out and buy a new DVD player right now, but the next time I do this thread will be very helpful as a guide in my research.

Do any of these players being mentioned have any issues with using the "basic" trick plays like pause, FF, RW when playing mpegs?

I use a Philips DVP642 in my bedroom. I picked up a Toshiba SD-4980 for use in the front room which does the job quite well (with upconversion through the HDMI output). The Toshiba SD-4980 has long filename support too! Check it out at the AVS Forum. :)

Darn shame the Humax DVD or GoBack couldn't be so easy to work with!
