So much for the no strings attached no rebate $15 DVR
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=284690

Just got "A Friendly Reminder" postcard saying by accepting the unit I agreed to 24 months service.

With the potential of Dish going to TiVo, Yahoo working with ATT, ATT working with Echostar, ATT merger with BellSouth, etc. I am not sure I want to be with DTV for the next 2 years.

So I guess my box is going back...

I'd call retention. The DVR4ME promotion DEFINITELY stated "no further commitment". I'll bet dollars to donuts they'll take it off.

Any documentation (web-page/email/etc) to that effect?

What potential for Dish going to TiVo? I don't see that ever happening.

I too accepted the DVR4ME deal. I actually ended up with an R15 and a DVR40. I noticed on the last bill that there was a new two-year commitment. I politely emailed via the website and they politely removed the comittment. No problem, no argument, and they apologized for the error.

I had to tell the CSR my unit was a refurb.
Once I did that, the CSR agreed that there was no new commitment.

I'm not quite sure I understand all this concern over the new 2 year commitment. If I drop them after 1.5 years will they come break my legs?

No, worse: they'll say that you owe them money because of the early cancellation.

The postcard I received "reminding" me of the commitment stated the amount would be $300 for advanced products such as a DVR.

Wouldn't that $300 be pro-rated over the 2 year time frame? And isn't it voided if I send them back whatever equipment I'm using when I drop D*? It's not like I could use the equipment for anything else.

And you know when I sent it back it would be without the working hard drive it came with.

with a cut and paste of the agreement offer. They removed it.
