i have a dvr40 that will not accept commands from the peanut remote. yes the batteries are good and the remote works on other dvr's in the house. in the system information screen, it shows that the remote address is not set (0). i have tried to set the address using the pause and dtv button, but it still will not accept commands.

actually none of the lights on the front of the unit light up. not even the power light. i have tried changing the front panal but that didnt work. what else can i try. thanks.

check the little white cable running from the tivo Motherboard to the front panel.
If it's broken, your tivo is useless.

are you talking about the thin ribbon. can't i just replace that? i don't see any other cable running from the MB to the front panel.

Maybe the remote address is set to something other than 0 and the DVR40 is still at 0. Then that remote won't control it. Reset the remote address and see what happens.

Do the other remotes do anything on this problem unit?

Can you hear the fan and hard drive spin?

Maybe the power supply has failed.

no remotes work with the unit. the tivo itself powers-up and works fine by using the buttons on the front panel.

It only takes one to be set to "0", either the remote or the receiver and they will communicate with each other. Thats if the receiver is working properly and in this case it isn't.:(

If the front panel buttons are working then the ribbon cable is mosty okay. The wire from the IR sensor may have come loose. Or the sensor has moved and is behind the cover.
