View Full Version : Galleon 2.2 and TiVoDesktop 2.2 problems in new configuration

Finally got broadband (WildBlue since Verizon gave up) so my network is back to a more normal configuration: Linksys wireless router acting as a router and all my systems are clients on that. Everything (including TiVo) is connected wired except my laptop.

All my MP3s live on an H140 jukebox which acts as an external drive. If I hook this to my laptop, TiVo Desktop works (inasmuch as it ever does) as does Galleon. But since my laptop is now wireless and portable, I'd prefer not to hook it up there most of the time.

I have a server that runs nothing but HomeSeer home automation software and PaperPort scanner software, and acts as a Windows file server. I plug the jukebox in there and then my laptop maps the share so that all the files appear in the same place on the same drive as when it's connected locally, so playlists and everything work the same. That gives me four ways to play music via TiVo, none of which work, as follows:

Via TiVoDesktop on my laptop: This works; the songs play. But I'm stuck with all the bugs in TiVoDesktop (can't support long playlists, barfs on any playlist with a song in it with international characters, etc.) So I hesitate to call this a solution.

Via Galleon on my laptop: If I access Galleon on my laptop, it displays locally hosted files fine, but it doesn't display files that are on the share, even though they appear in the same path as always. Galleon doesn't seem to be willing to follow a file share. But shares should be transparent to Galleon.

Via TiVoDesktop on the server: Merely having this installed causes the system to bog down and the scanner to stop working. I've emptied the cache and examined the settings, done all the things I've been doing for years to keep this cranky beast working, but none help. Had to uninstall it, in the end.

Via Galleon on the server: Galleon installs on the server, but won't run, even started manually from the Services console. I get the following message in logs:

INFO | jvm 5 | 2006/03/04 09:28:17 | Galleon 2.2.0 is starting...

Okay, that makes sense. I changed the service in Services to use my login and that didn't fix it, though, even after restarting the service. Perhaps I need to reboot, which I'll try later. Not sure where to change permissions to make the service see the share, though.

Any ideas on why Galleon isn't working on the server, anyone? Another data point on that: TiVo shows that server on the Now Playing list for GoBack, though there's no recordings, and of course since I can't get into Galleon's configuration on that server, I couldn't even give it a directory to check. I wonder what directory it's checking now. How can that be showing when TiVoDesktop is uninstalled and Galleon's server won't run?

The Galleon service does not run under your user account. The Galleon service will not be able to see any mapped drives you may have. You can change the user that Galleon uses to run under or you can give the Galleon service account permissions to access the share. The preferred way of referring to network shares are: \\pc\share

I finally got this working by making a new account on both boxes named TiVo and then setting the service on my laptop log in using it, then creating a new entry in Galleon's music directory listing for \\octopus\jukebox. Everything works except one thing: playlists. The playlists look like this:

\Library\L\Led Zeppelin\In Through The Out Door\03 - Fool In The Rain.mp3
\Library\R\Rush\Counterparts\02 - Stick It Out.mp3
\Library\B\Billy Joel\An Innocent Man\03 - The Longest Time.mp3

And in fact, \\octopus\jukebox\Library\L\Led Zeppelin\In Through The Out Door\03 - Fool In The Rain.mp3 is a valid pathname for a valid file. When I browse to the playlist, I see the list of filenames, but if I select one, the Play screen comes up with nothing in it, and nothing plays. If I browse to the same file manually, it plays fine.

These playlists work fine in everything else, but everything else is accessing them from a drive mapped as V:. Still, these relative filenames should still work in theory. Any suggestions for what I can do?
