I'm have recently wanted to start burning some programs I have on my R10 onto dvds. I'm really not interested in using just a simple dvd burner but would rather get the programs onto my computer and burn them from there. I have a couple of programs that came preinstalled on my Sony PC but they seem to be a bit complicated. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations for any software that I could use for this? I'm really wanting the ability to edit out commercials and things of that nature. So a program that I can CAPTURE the video with and then EDIT the program with. Thanks.

Why not get a tuner card for the PC? Then all you need to do is play and record. Then you will have a file you can manipulate.

I have a tuner card. What program would I use to capture the video while I'm playing it? And would that same program allow me to capture the video as any kind of video file?

Did the card come with any capture software? I'm guessing it didn't. Try visiting the website of the tuner card manufacturer and see if they have any capture software for download.

Otherwise Google "Video capture software". I'm sure you'll find something. I think there are several PVR-type programs out there.

Most DVD authoring software can be somewhat intimidating. Just connect the R10's s-video and audio outputs to your capture card. Then play the program (in real time) and capture to your PC's hard drive. Then using some authoring software to burn to a DVD.

I use a standalone DVD recorder for capturing shows. If it is a show I want to edit, I then rip the show from the DVD onto my PC. Then I edit it and reburn to DVD. My current authoring software is Pinnacle Studio Plus 9. Works for my needs and I got it a bit cheaper than it normally sells for. You might be able to find an earlier version on eBay for a lot less.

AFAIK

The answer is definitely yes...but it requires voiding your warranty and going "underground" ;-)

That's why I suggested the DVD recorder method. :)

Actually, the answer is 'no,' since he has an R10. Those can't be hacked beyond adding larger hard drives.

But it's a lot of trouble to go through...
