Okay, I recently became a Directv customer and bought a refurbished Philips DSR7000 model TIVO from the $15 special that everybody has been talking about on this board. Well, I just now upgraded the software from 3.1 to 6.2 version. I was wondering can I take the hard drive that is already in the unit (40GB) out and put in a Western Digital 120 GB hard-drive into the unit to increase the amount of recording time. If i can do this, what is the procedure that you must go through to put it in? Thanks in advance for your replies to a newbie question that I am sure has already been answered on the boards.

I think he meant the Upgrade Forum: Try this: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=25

Actually, you want the Upgrade Center: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=25
Both the TiVo Underground and TiVo Upgrade Center are separate sections of this forum.

Unless you check the L.A. underground. There you might find the A-Team.

thank you all again for replying to my newbie question. I checked out the "underground" section and it was very helpful. I still have not found info on upgrade for Phillips, but I will still keep looking. Thanks again, and I am glad someone clarified what "underground" is because im a newbie and trying to learn the ropes about this TIVO tech stuff! Thanks.

As long as you are swapping hard drives, why not Zipper (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929) it?
With networked features, you can do cool stuff - example:
I had 12 30-minutes shows that I wanted to backup to a single DVD disc in 6-hour mode. With a non-hacked DVR I would have to "Save to VCR" each show, start my recorder 12 times, etc. - major hassle.
With the Zippered DTivo, I connect to it via my web browser, click the 'Merge' function, select the 12 shows I want, put them in the playing order desired and poof! it creates a playlist entry (but does not use up more recording space) that will play all 12 shows in a row. Put my blank disc into DVD recorder, do a "save to VCR" of the special entry, hit RECORD. Total hands-on setup time: 3 minutes. Next morning I 'finalize' the disc in my DVD recorder and I'm done.
