View Full Version : Yahoo HME Features: Now I Had Them and Now I Don't

I recently received the new home media features from Tivo that included Yahoo!Weather, Yahoo!Traffic, and access to Live365 versus other things. I then read on the community boards here about Galleon and I downloaded that as well. I consistently had problems with Galleon freezes up and slowing down my systems resources so I uninstalled it. After uninstalling it, I noticed that my new "Yahoo" home media features have now disappeared. Does anyone know how to get them back?

That's strange... have you tried rebooting your TiVo to see if that restores order?

I have the exact same problem. Until I read your post, I was convinced I was the only person who had this issue. For me, the Yahoo, Best Buy, Live365 apps worked fine. Then I installed Galleon 2.2, and the Tivo apps vanished.
I called Tivo support 4 times and they are the worst. First time they had me uninstall Galleon, reboot the Tivo, modem and router. That didn't work. The next 3 times I called, they put me on the "priority list" to get the Yahoo apps. Whatever this list is, it doesn't work.
Everything else works fine. My Tivo makes it's daily connection. I can transfer shows from Tivo to PC, and PC to Tivo. Galleon works. Apps.tv works. It's just the Tivo hosted HME apps that are gone.
I found an email address of a Tivo employee and emailed him my problem. He said he'd have his team look into it, but I haven't heard back yet.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know...Thanks.

Now they are back. I'm not sure what happened, but it seems to be a combination of a few things.
I wish I had an answer on what happened, but I don't.

Darn, looks like I am the only person with this problem now. Good for you, though!
Did you do anything to make the apps come back? For example, did you reboot anything? Did you install or uninstall anything? Did you change any settings on your router or your Tivo?
I have a Linksys WRT54GS router, and a Tivo branded network adapter. Do you have the same router/adapter?
I'm just looking for anything that will point me in the right direction to getting this resolved.
Thanks for your help.

I've been avoiding this problem because I don't use it much. Maybe someone has an answer. I have the Yahoo apps. I uploaded photos onto Yahoo. I was able to watch slide shows and now I only see my photo albums and no cover photos are showing. I was never able to see the cover photo for each album and thought that was my low DSL bandwidth problem. It says please wait in every album box. However the slide show used to work and now doesn't. I've tried Flicker and was never able to see any photos there either.

Should all series 2 TiVo's have the yahoo apps by now? I still haven't seen them pop up on my menu yet. Is there something that needs to be installed on the PC then transferred to the TiVo or do I need to add another server with the yahoo IP or something?
Thanks,
Dave

Here are the simple steps you need to take to get the TiVo Yahoo! apps. For some reason, TiVo isn't pushing these out yet so you have to request them. The steps are:
(0) Go to Tivo's main home page (I can't actually put the URL in here because this site tries to filter against spammers and I haven't made enough posts to get around this)
(1) From the main menu click: I Have TiVo
(2) From the sub menu click: Exclusive Tivo Service Features
(3) From the sub menu click: New TiVo Online Services
(4) In the body of the window at the bottom, click on the "Sign up for the priority list" link
Note: It may take a day or two before you see these apps. I found that you'll receive a message via your Tivo box that you have the apps, but then they don't show up until a few days later. Odd but ture.

I need to laugh at Tivo's lack of consistency. :) On the page where you enter your Tivo service number, it states that the priority list is first come, first serve and that it can take weeks to receive your software. Then, on the confirmation page, it says you should receive your software in 3 business days. I signed up over two weeks ago, so the latter is obviously wrong, but I did find it a little amusing.

I just received my updates the other day. I am experiencing the problem where they will disappear. Then later on they will reappear. Sometimes they will appear without icons then soon after they will disappear. It would appear to me that there is some type of communication problem that occurs. I am not 100% if the tivo box is connecting directly to the internet or if it is relaying through my computer to the internet. I am running both Galleon 2.2.0 and Tivo Desktop 2.2 Although I like Galleon better. This problem just happened again to me just a few minutes ago. I was wanting to play the games that are included but it didn't work so I thought I would come read for a while. However, in goofing around I shut down tivo desktop. And now everything is working. I will keep an eye on it and experiment and keep you posted on if I can pick up a pattern to this problem

I think I may have found the probelm. I enabled logging on my firewalls and found that when you access the Music and More sub menu and you have the yahoo stuff installed, it makes an outbound connection to 204.176.49.116 on ports 7288 and 8000. If you allow this everything should work fine.

I have been having this same problem. Yahoo photos was working fine a few months ago, & has since gone down, just showing the "Please Wait" I thought it was something to do with my wireless signal which was at 60% I then purchased a wireelss booster which upped my signal to 95% but still had the same problem, very odd since all other yahoo services work except for podcaster.
How should I go about trying to allow the outbound connection & ports on my firewall? I'm using Zone Alarm.
Any help would be great.

It most likely not going thru your computer at all. Doube check your dsl router/modem. Many of them have firewalls built in. IF your not sure, post the make and model of it.

First, let me say that I love TiVo and I have persuaded several friends to purchase a TiVo DVR and service. That being said, however, I think TiVo published the Yahoo! upgrade a little prematurely. It seems as though there are a few bugs that should have been worked out before it's release. Often, when trying to access one of the Yahoo! options (traffic, photos, weather, etc...), I get an error message saying there is a problem with the server and to try again later. Other times it acts as though this is the first time I have accessed the Yahoo! area and I have to enter my Yahoo info again (other times, it remembers my info and I can go right to my photos, weather, traffic, etc.. with no trouble). More times than not, when I an "Playing" my photos (you know..using the auto scroll option) it freezes up. And finally, I have to question the thought process TiVo used when deciding to go with Live365 rather than Yahoo's LaunchCast service. It's apparent TiVo and Yahoo! have some sort of 'agreement' yet TiVo went with a competitor of Yahoo's when offering a streaming music service. Makes no sense.

OK, I'm getting closer I can feel it :D I figured out how to login to my router... I see in the logs trying to access 204.176.49.116 7288 & not matching to outbond rule.. I added the service to thoes ports, then set up a rule to allow that IP address & enabled loging... but still not working, is there anything I need to double check to make sure is clicked or checked in these settings?
