I was just wondering which one works better and faster. I am using the Linksys USB200M right now but i heard the Tivo brand network adapter works faster just wanted to know if it really is true.

IMO, it probably won't be any faster, at least to be worth to switch, since I suppose you have ethernet installed already.

I've read that too (but never confirmed by anybody). TivoJerry said awhile back that the Tivo one's advantages (for lack of a better word) could only be applied to a wireless adapter.

I'll let you know when my backordered one ships. I have a version 1 USB200M on my current Tivo.

The TiVo network adapters are faster then other wireless adapters because they offload some of the processing involved in wireless networking from the TiVo to the adapter itself. However it's still considerably slower then a wired network, especially when compared to a high end USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter like th USB200M.

So in short.... Stick with what you've got. It's as good as it gets.

In my experience the USB200M is 2% faster than the TiVo adapter on a 540 TiVo and 3.5% faster than a DWL-122 wireless B adapter on a 595 TiVo.

Besides, wireless in any form is a downgrade from wired because you open yourself up to interference from other networks and other devices using the crowded 2.4GHz band. Finally, there is no security risk with wired, no one can wardrive your wired network.

Common sense would make me agree, but according to ufo4sale...

Of course, he could just be mistaken. I have yet to see anybody prove him one way or another. So I guess I gotta do it myself. :p

My money is on him having a router or wiring problem that slowed his wired connection in a way that the wireless got around. If that Ethernet cable isn't plugged into the USB200M just right it could make a flakey connection.

Also we never figured out why your speeds were so much faster than mine for very similar test conditions. I would definitely like to know what I could change to get up to those speeds you saw. I suspect it might be something on the PC end. Mine has a bunch of corporate VPN, firewall and AV crud on it that I think makes it doublespeak. I am looking forward to your tests.

I'll be doing another round of tests myself when my new 540 (with Tivo adapter) comes in. Then we'll be able to compare apples to apples. My current Tivo is the faster 240.

That went over my head.

What Tivo processing is involved in wireless networking, that isn't involved in Wired networking?

Wow massive typo there! What I meant was that they offload some of the processing from the TiVo, not the TiVo adapter. :)
