Just curious, what is better for picture. I know dvd is 480p and it is filmlike quality which is nice over 480i.

1080i is very clear to me and have heard 1080p is better, but dont have that now or a button on tivo for it yet.

now what about 720p?? if its progressive, its clearer than dvd, but not as good as 1080, or is the progressive 720 better than the interlaced 1080??

confused??

Use which ever one looks best to you. Both are considered "HD". Some networks broadcast in 780p, some in 1080i. I leave my HD-Tivo on 1080i.

I deally, you want the HR10-250 to output whichever format matches your display the best so it would be good to know that.

However, ther eare advantages and disavantages to broadcasting in either format. 720 is not capable of quite as much resolution as 1080, but it is therefore more compact and coupled with the progressive scan seems to help with sporting events.

1080i seems better for non-sporting event shows.

however, this has been debated for years and it is very subjective.

It depends on your TV. What TV model do you have?
My Mits 48"RPTV doesn't support 720p so I can't say which is better.
As was said above, use whichever looks better for you.

I think TiVos should output the video in its native format and let the TV do the work if that's what people want. Too bad the HR10-250 won't do this.

Yes, that would be the ideal situation. Too bad they will never release the software that will allow it. (even though they have it in the can)

my crt rptv and tivo are both set at 1080. I tried 720 for the fun of it but didn't see the difference. I think crt is best at 1080 but I dont know all the techo jargon of why. Probably native resolution as stated above.

Spend a sunday afternoon with a matrix of all possible combos and watch the same program thru each. That's the only true way of determining what looks better.

For my Sharp projector, I cannot see a difference between 1080i or 720p even though my projector is a native 720p.

For my Sharp projector, I cannot see a difference between 1080i or 720p even though my projector is a native 720p.

That's because your projector is native 720p and can't resolve the additional resolution of a 1080i tranmission.
