I'm at the point where enough is enough... replacing both of these would put me on unit #5 & 6. In two other non HD rooms, I've replaced two dead SD DirecTivo units with a R10 and a Humax. I'm on the edge of scooping it all up and into a dumpster. Last week I went through the green screen issue, now I get stuttering every night, no response to the remote and finally it will reboot. The 2nd HD10-250 is rebooting every hour or so.
The new lease deal seems like no real favor.
I'm a good, solid DTV customer but I suppose it's time to explore my options. My local Cable Co supplies the Moxi unit and I suppose I'll take a look at Dish.
DTV.. you are losing me in a hurry..

Everything happens for a reason. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise! Don't lose hope - you do have choices!
Please BEWARE though - Check your choices BEFORE you let DTV give you anything (discounts, replacement units, etc).
They will use ANYTHING as a reason to lock you in for TWO more years! That's a LONGGGGGGGG time especially now that HD Dvrs are finally starting to evolve!
Good luck and keep us posted! Many of us are or will be in the same position.

I had this same problem on my 15 month old HR10-250 with 550G of disk about two weeks ago. Within days of purchasing my HR10-250, I had added a second drive from WeaKnees (300G).
So I took the top off the unit and could detect clicking sounds from the added 300G drive when it was stuttering and there was no response from the remote. WeaKnees had me send them both drives and for $79 they reformatted the original and replaced the failing 300G drive. Now my unit works great again. No more stuttering, no more reboots and performance is good.

I'd say call DirecTV and buy the service option, $7/month, to cover all your HDTV units (plus any others) and you can call them for a replacement when it goes bad.

That was my initial plan, but warranty or not, I'm tired of the unreliability. If I replace them again, it ill be the third time replacing each. I really don't have the time to deal with recreating season passes time & time again.
I've pretty much had enough.

You've had some bad luck. I've only replaced the harddrive because of it going dead once... only three months after they were first released. I'm my HDVR2's, I think I replaced a bad drive two times. Of of the two times was recently when I purchased the DVR4ME offer...it came w/ a bad drive.

Too much humidity in your house?
Are they on a "solid" surface?
Proper ventalation around the units?
Surge protectors?
Got kids that like to play with electronic equiptment?

The hard drives go bad.
They aren't really that hard to replace.
Seems like you're getting all worked up about having to replace another unit when all you probably need to do is replace the hard drive.
If it's such a hardship on you maybe you should just switch to cabletv service.
I've heard everything they give you lasts forever. :)

One of my unmodified HR10s is starting the random reboot tango. It's occurred 3 times in the past week that I know of. Of course, each time it happened I was recording shows on both tuners and watching a recorded show. So I wound up with 4 partials missing about 5 minutes of each program. Since I don't use the 30 second skip, it may have happened more frequently without my knowledge. I have a few shows to watch before I try the clear & delete option.
Assuming I ultimately replace the hard drive, I'm curious what you or others would recommend for hard drive replacement. I'm considering just buying a replacement drive from weaknees that's all ready to go.
