Well let me get started I'm a former DirecTV customer who used DirecTV DVR with Tivo for the last two years. Since Cablevision finally got competitive with pricing and is going to save me $100 a month because of the TV, Internet and phone bundle I jumped ships to Cablevision.

I have now been using their Scientific Atlantic DVR for almost two weeks and I HATE IT!!! The only positive things about it is the dual tuners and the picture in picture.

Now I have been doing a lot of researching and found articles from the summer that said Cablevision had signed deals with Tivo and was in the testing stages of offering Tivo to its customers. So I obviously shot them and email inquiring about this explaining how dissatisfied I was with their DVR offerings and I got no response--- now I remember why I originally cut the cable.

So now what I'm here to find out is does any have any information on the Cablevision Tivo?

and...

Since I can not stand this DVR. In fact it angers me so much I'm willing to shell out for another service so can anyone recommend a stand alone Tivo and will it work with my digital cable?

and also....
Should I buy a used one off of ebay or a new one? I have saw a lot a chatter that Tivo might have something coming out with a cable card

and don't kill me but....

Will I be able to set up a Tivo with my cable company VOIP? I know you can hook it up to your network but it says on their web site you need a phone connection for the first time and I have VOIP.

Thank you all very much....

A new, current TiVo with the latest software can be set up without a voice line. If you get one that has an older version, you'll need to be able to plug a phone line into it that'd work in an ordinary fax machine or that you could hook a $10 phone to, that'll provide dial tone; if your VOIP system allows for that, it'll work, and if it doesn't, it won't.

For my part, I'd buy a new TiVo. There is a cable-card-supporting TiVo coming out later in the year. I don't know if you can stand to wait that long. On the bright side, even as TiVo has released newer models, the older models have kept up a pretty good resale value on eBay, so buying a Series 2 right now and then upgrading later won't cost you too much more. If you want to go that route, do not buy the lifetime service option until you get the newer cable-card-ready HD-ready dual-tuner TiVo that's coming later in the year.
