I'm at my wits end with this. I had the same problem a year ago, and stopped using digital cable because of it. Now that I have digital cable back, it's happening again.

I do my Tivo with Guided Setup for my Motorola Comcast Digital Cable box. Cool, no problems at all. But the FIRST time that I have a recording scheduled that's on a channel other than what I'm watching, the channel changes on the Tivo, and NOT the cable box - the Tivo records the show on the channel I was on at the time, instead of the channel it's supposed to change to. From that point on, channel changing doesn't work at all, and I have to reboot the Tivo, and sometimes even repeat Guided Setup.

I've missed countless shows over the past two weeks because of this, and it's driving me nuts. I use IR cables, and yes, they're lined up correctly. Can someone give me some advice? This is something that's making me lean towards ditching Tivo for Comcast's DVR - I love Tivo, and I love the features, but it's not worth missing the shows that I schedule it to record.

Actually, it looks like making one of those tents fixed the problem. Pretty easy - just tucked a small towel over the entire cable box, and fixed it.

Two questions:

#1.) What's the best code to use for the Motorola boxes?

#2.) Will creating this tent affect my ability to use my cable remote to order PPV events?

Don't run the cable coax from the cable box into your TiVo. Run the RCA audio/video (or preferably, RCA audio and S-Video) from the box to the TiVo and make sure in Guided setup that you tell the system you're using a cable box.

There's no reason, with a cable box, for the TiVo to even be trying to change its own channel.

Uh...why wouldn't it? It changes it and the cable box to record.

Anyway, as I said, I fixed that...just looking for answers to the other two questons now.

check out the cable box codes & compatibility thread, available from the FAQ at the top of the forum. Lost of good, detailed info there.
