Hi. I don't see the Linksys compact USB 2.0 10/100 USB200M Network adapter on Tivos list of compatible Network Adapters, but the have it as a item in their TiVo rewards. Can anyone tell me if they have ever used this particular adapter?

The Linksys USB200M adapter does appear on the list of supported TiVo adapters, as published on the TiVo web site (www.tivo.com). Here is the information:

Linksys USB200M Ver. 1 --. To distinguish between Ver. 1 and Ver. 2, look on the side of the carton beneath the Package Contents listing. Ver. 1 has an image of an orange and white CD-ROM and shows no version number.

Linksys USB200M Ver. 2— An advanced release of 7.2.2 software is available to support Ver. 2. Click here to sign up on the TiVo Priority Page. To distinguish between Ver. 1 and Ver. 2, look on the side of the carton beneath the Package Contents listing. Ver. 2 has no image of a CD-ROM and shows "Ver. 2".

as Johnstone said.....

but here is the link to the actual TiVo web page

I use Version 1 to connect my 2 TiVo's to my wired network. They work well, but it was a bit tough to get the Ethernet cable to sit properly in the jack on the USB adapter. It took me a couple of tries until I heard the cable "Click" into place.

I use a version 1 in the living room and a version 2 in the bed room, they work great. Be sure to use the USB extension provided to take the pressure off of the connector.

I picked up a Linksys 10/100 USB200M v.1 and when I contected it even though the TiVo shows a MAC address I never got a "Message" saying it was connected and TiVo cannot find my router. I tried resetting the TiVo, but I still have no luck. Any suggestions?

Does the router see the TiVo? If you are using a Linksys router, go to the web based configuration utility (http://192.168.1.1), then click the last item on the far right of the screen labled "Status", then click on "DHCP Client Table", the Tivo should be listed in the pop up window. The client host name should be your TiVo Service Number (15 digits).

also, make sure on the adapter there are 2 lights on, and that the ethernet cable is properly seated, until you hear a "click". This may take some adjustments to get the cable properly seated.

I cant seem to get the lights to light up. I think thats the problem. I have it connect to TiVOs USB port

make sure that the adapter is properly seated in the USB jack, and take the advice of wmm_16 to use the extension cable that came with the adapter. I have not used this extension, so I cannot vouch for whether it works or not. My adapter is plugged directly into the USB port. Remember, you need 2 lights for it to be functioning properly. The lights, as well as the ethernet jack should be visible when you look down at the adapter from above.

It's very possible. If your adapter was an "Open Box" it likely was returned by someone who either couldn't get it to work, and/or damaged it which is easy to do because of its design.

Since you'll need to return it anyway, I recommend getting the NetGear FA120 instead. It's a MUCH BETTER design, and very compatible with TiVo's. It's not as elegant looking as the Linksys, but it'll most likely be hidden behind your A/V cabinet anyway.

And no I don't work for NetGear, but I do like to recommend products that work well right out of the box. In fact, I wonder why TiVo decided to carry the Linksys rather than NetGear on their website, when the NetGear is far less finicky.

jj was in the Official TiVo support forum and it seemed that they thought ir was a wireless adapter.

This may be a mood point, but are you sure your network cable is good? I make my own and have fudged them before. Try a different cable, also make sure the cable is seated at the router, sometimes they pull out a little.
