old cable boxes

Hi
im a newbie and pretty behind on the times. I have an old jerrold cable box and was wundering if tivo will work with this old box, Im thinking of buying the toshiba combo or just the tivo unit. Also, do u think buying the combo is as good idea, am i sacrificing anything if i buy the combo model

It will work with the IR Blasters, if Jerrold doesn't work try General Insurments or G.I. as they bought Jerrold and produced some of the same boxes.

do you need a cable box?

Do you (a) receive any premium channels that are scrambled without the box or (b) any digital channels (e.g.channels above 100)? If the answer is no, why do you need the cable box in the first place?

no channels above 100 and i do get a few premium channels!!

But doesn't the cable company have to enable the premium channels on the cable box?
