Lots of good buzz around this episode w/Tom Selleck. Hopefully, it will measure up.

Well this has to be a record for starting a thread in advance of the show :D

Don't be so sure. They've been made months in advance (and often forgotten by the time the actual show rolls around).

Don't be so sure. They've been made months in advance (and often forgotten by the time the actual show rolls around).Hence the new rule (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=271608):
Timing of official threads:
Do not start the official show thread more than 1 hour before the air date in the earliest market. The new thread should be about the new show.

There is no prize in being the first to start the thread, and beginning it too early leads to pages of guesses about what might happen, discussions of what happened last week - all of which should should be contained in last week’s official thread. Bump that thread instead for pre-show speculation, and start the official thread fresh.

During the big revelation in the courtroom after the trial that the guy was having an affair with the nurse, I thought the ominous music was a bit overdone. The directing, editing and acting was more than enough to convey what was going on.

In the scene after the rehersal dinner, when Tom Selleck tells Schmidt that he loves her and there's a tight shot of Candace Bergen in profile, widescreen HDTV's had just the tip of Tom's nose and a hint of moustache poking into the frame in the upper left corner of the screen. That struck me as amusing. :)

Not bad, but seemed like a lot of filler. The Tom Selleck wedding story, to me, was a waste of time - almost cartoonish (although the double takes at the antics by Candice Bergen were great).

The Aberjonois story at least had a real issue, however, the scene at the end with the hug in the park just wrapped it up too quickly and neatly, especially considering the previous emotional scene between he and his daughter.

I liked the twist at the end of the trial - reminded me of some of the old Practice episodes when that kind of thing happened more often.

I'm pretty sure this was intentional to focus on Paul and Shirley, to change things up. While I could watch Spader and Shatner all day long, I'm glad they gave an episode to other folks (well, at least to Paul. I could do without Candice Bergen). But still, the best line once again belong to the Emmy Twins:

"I'm tired of my Alzheimer's being a storyline."
"It's not your story, Denny."

I enjoyed watching Rene Aberjonois' face go from sad to anger to shock .. considering how basset-hound wrinkled he's become nowadays, it was almost Odo-like. :)

And Shatner was extremely reserved this ep, both in the courtroom and during his "typical" entrance at the beginning of the trial..."Denny Crane..."

The discussions about Alzheimers and his father were apparently getting to him. My father just recently died after a relatively brief illness and six months in a nursing home. He was getting hospice treatment inlcuding morphine, so this episode hit close to home for me (and I'm sure others who have gone through this).

All the singing, looks like they were channeling Ally McBeal again.

The previews looked pretty good:
I really hope that Corbin Bernsen is playing Arnie Becker

It's weird, William Shatner never used to be any good as an actor.

And now he is.

Maybe you missed a little diddy he did called "Star Trek"

Anyways, great episode, Paul's Storyline was fantastic. A very very underrated Actor this Rene is. It was almost hard to watch him in that pain.

And the twist at the end was fantastic as well.

I noticed half-way thru the ep, Shore was drinking something different than his usual whiskey or bourbon, now it is red wine! Will wonders ever cease? :)

I was/am still thinking Selleck will reprise his "special guest star" status in future eps, just in time for sweeps, mark my words. Most likely, his wedding won't last and he'll continue to pine for Schmidt. Which, I thought I heard him call her a different name, during his last scene solo with her. Was it Cheryl he said? I think so.

Good ep, but no newly appointed partner Brad :( And anytime Shore is the voice of sanity, there's less fun in an ep. I like him doing crazy things and getting under everyone's skin :)

I thought he called her that too...but do this:

Shirl-ey

Take off the ey and you are left with "Shirl", now pronounce that outloud....sounds a damn like what he said and way to much like "Cheryl", they should have given her a better nicknamed...confused me too!

Not sure which quote to agree with more -- (so, sorry in advance for smeeking)
"The Emmy twins" and their lines - yup, that was good.
"How great Rene was" - agree there, too.
"How difficult it was to hear about the hospice treatment" -- I almost had to turn it off because of my experiences with my mother a year ago.
"Channelling Ally" - yup.

Best idiotic moment of the night -- tied between the rehearsal dinner toast and the wedding vows plus choir. I almost fell off my chair laughing at Tom Selleck and his lady singing, and then when the choir joined in... too much!

And it was great to see Jayne Brook, who I loved in Chicago Hope.

Maury Chaykin: (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0001999/) Most. Underrated. Character. Actor. Ever.

And one of my favorites. He played the guy who euthanized his wife.

He was perfect for this part, and his acting was terrific.

This is rapidly becoming my favorite show on TV.

NOTE: Maury Chaykin's filmography, linked above, does not include this BL appearance yet. Give it a couple of days. (His name was clearly in the opening show credits, and it was quite obviously him.)

I long for a "brilliant Shatner" moment in a trial, as he had when his character was first introduced in "The Practice", where "all the plaque melts away and he, for a moment, becomes brilliant in the courtroom again".

His answer to Spader's "how did you get the doctor to do it" was priceless.

Anyway, maybe they can re-hash the "case of Arnold Basset" storyline and adapt it to Shatner.

What interns? I recall two associates, other than Denise, being involved in several shows.
