Will I still be able to submit for $150 off a 80hr 540 if I purchased it for $199 as an open box??

possibly. It depends on whether someone had bought the TiVo and done the rebate and then returned it after that. with the new penalty of 150$ if terminating before 1 year of subscription the possibility of it is far less than before.

PS - with lifetime there is no such penalty, you just don't get yopur money back ;)

Thank you for your rebate inquiry. Unfortunatley open box models do not
qualify for the $150.00 rebate. Open box models are usually sold at a
reduced price therefore do not qualify.

well there it is. I guess that answers it pretty much and pushes aside any vagueness. Good thing I found/picked up a 40hr unit elsewhere.

I'm not sure that the "Official" response you got is necessarily 100% correct. It may vary with different rebate offers. I purchased an $88 540 from ecost and got the full $150 rebate. At the time there was nothing in the small print that placed a restriction on the purchase price.

Though as Zeo pointed out, you could be SOL if the previous purchaser had applied for the rebate

There is NO SUCH restriction on purchase price! As long as you legitimately bought the product and meet the requirements and have proof of purchase, UPC label or whatever else is required, you should get the rebate.

I have bought many computers from BB as open box specials in the past and the rebate has always been honored both by the manufacturer and BB themselves. In fact, my last purchase was a SOny Vaio desktop that retailed for $1100. I got it for $640 after $200 MIR - and they couldn't find the MIR form for $100 of it, so they just reduced the price at the register. Cost to me - $640.
