Hi, I own one of these units and I'm about to purchase a dvd made in europe (region 2). Do you know if this is a multi-region dvd player or compatible with just US discs?

You will normally get 4 changes in regions than the drive goes bad..It is not a TiVo control issue but a DVD drive control issue. If you keep switching, the DVD drive will go dead on the 5th or 6th switch. After that the DVD drive is junk. (Unless you can hack the drive somehow).

OR

Copy the DVD to make it region free if you know how (I don't).

Go ahead and buy it, you can then rip with dvddecrypter and reburn. decrypter will remove region encoding

Thanks guys. I downloaded the dvd decrypter and ripped and re-burned. Worked like a charm!

I've done the DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink conversions, and my player stops saying it doesn't support PAL discs.

Any ideas on how to get around THAT problem?

This forum seems to answer your question about PAL to NTSC conversion:
