I have a question I just got a tivo and I'm hearing so many different things about how I can use it. My main question is how often do you normally get guided updates on your tivo from your network or phone line. my problem is I don't have a phoneline and I don't want to get one just to use my tivo. And my computer is on the other side of the room from my tv and I don't wanna run cords across and I understand the whole wireless things. But is there a way I could just connent wired from my computer to the tivo like once a week over night to get the updates or will that not work? I'm very dumb about this tivo thing and I've been stressed about this all week. so any help would be great! Thanks

Tivo keeps 12 days of forward guide data (plus the previous 48 hours), so you can connect for guide updates as little as every 12 days if you wanted to, but keep in mind that schedules get changed often enough that you'd likely get recordings that aren't what was actually on or miss some shows because they weren't in the guide at all because the schedule changed since you last allowed an update.
