Hello Guys,

I woke up this morning to find my 2 week old Tivo DSR 704 Blow out Tivo unit not working correctly.

It seemed very slow to respond to commands , and only channel 9 and 17 worked on the locals.

I tried restarting the unit, then calling in for guide data, to no avail.

So I called DTV and ended up with Tier 2 for over 90 minutes.

They had me check Signal strength on all sats and transponders, all were fine.

They then tried to resend info to the unit, this made it worse. Now I had no channel higher than 654 and nothing lower than 100, We restarted the system again, to no avail. They then had me switch out cards with another unit, after she did her magic to get the system to recognize the new cards, it still didn't work.

She then had me re configure the sat's to Round, instead of Oval 3lnb, (She was thinking out of the box)

Now we had no channels working at all, even after switching it back to oval 3lnb. she did the thing on her end to re configure the cards back to the original units, but my Tivo is dead.

She has ordered me a replacement, but cant promise me it will be a Tivo. She seemed very knowledgeable and confirmed they are having problems with recording issues with the R15, but said updates were in the pike.

She also told me her system is telling her I don't have to return this unit.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I might try, the only thing that I know that happened to this Tivo since the last time it was on and working fine on Tues was it got unplugged for 30 minutes.

Would a new HDD fix this, I know nothing about doing upgrades to these. I would rather just do something to fix it, as opposed to hacking it if possible

Thanks

They also ran out of tivo replacements. They won't give you a HR10-250----I tried. They shipped me a paper weight (R15).

Is there anyway for us to test the unit to determine the cause?

If it where a tivo I would try

1) Auto detect satellite information
2) A c&d (clear and delete)

Update,

Last night we tried it again, Still nothing below 100 is working, but a few channels in the 700's are working, as well as all channels between 100 and 654. This was better than it was left after talking to Tier 2 support.

We tried watching some TV and taped shows and it was "stuttery" for lack of a better word.

That would lead me to believe it was a HDD issue would it not. But would that also affect not recieving all channels.

I dont mind doing a HDD upgrade, but dont want to be tossing money down the drain.
