Can a lifetime subsciption be sold/transferred if I sell a TiVo unit on Ebay?

Thanks.

Indeed it can, and happens often. Your lifetime subscription represents an equity asset.

Yes, if it is a Standalone. Fore a DirecTV TiVo Lifetime, you have to cancel your DirecTV account altogether, IIRC.

Is there anything I need to know to complete the transfer?

Thanks again.

When you buy your TiVo w/Lifetime off eBay (or any other source), you should call TiVo Customer Service and give them the unit's serial number, saying that you are the new owner. That way, you can add it to your TiVo profile so you can do things like set up Online Scheduling. Unfortunately you cannot do this online, you have to call and wait on hold until a live person answers the phone.

However, if you simply want to use it, changing the "ownership" is not a requirement. You can still re-do Guided Setup without having to notify TiVo.

I recently sold one TiVo w/Lifetime (Sony SVR-2000 Series I) and bought another w/Lifetime (Sony SVR-3000 Series II). TiVo's w/Lifetime go for a good price on eBay, especially the rare Sony models.

I also would think that if you eventually get a second TiVo and want the multi-TiVo discount, they need to know that you own the first one.

You also need to have ownership in the system to be able to use TiVo Central Online, name the unit, toggle the MRV and download flags, sign up for broadband content like Rocketboom and whatever else comes down the pipe.

So do it. :-)

As the seller of a lifetime sub'd tivo, there's nothing you need to do. Any thing that does need to be done should be done by the buyer and it can be done in just a few minutes with a phone call to tivo customer service.

After waiting on hold for 30 minutes or so.
