I have an R10 unit that I have had for a little over a year. About two weeks ago the double buffering stopped.

Symptoms:

Watching one channel, I can hit the 'play' button and see a buffer of several minutes or more. I change to another channel by entering a number. After a few minutes I hit 'enter' to go back to the orignal channel and the buffer is gone when I hit 'play' or try to go back '<<'.

Watching one channel, I can hit the 'play' button and see a buffer of several minutes or more. I then hit the 'pause' button and the program pauses. I change to another channel by entering a number. After a few minutes I hit 'enter' to go back to the orignal channel and the buffer is gone when I hit 'play' or try to go back '<<'.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

You are changing channels and not changing tuners. Push the down arrow on your remote when watching TV to change the tuners you are watching.

If your machine is recording a Suggestion, then entering the numbers will change the channel on the tuner you are watching, not the other one, hence the loss of buffer. Use the Down button to switch between tuners and then change channel to stop the recording, then I think you'll find your buffers are restored.

Edit: AAAARRGGHH Smeeked!

Thanks for the reply. I did not have to do this before. I will try it out. I used to just change to one channel and then go back to the original and the buffering worked.

I have done a reset to try to get the double buffering back, but to no avail.

It's never worked like that on any of my DTiVos. Changing channel = losing buffer, toggling between tuners keeps buffer.

If you happen to enter the channel number that the other tuner is tuned to, then it does change to that tuner. Other than that, using the down arrow button is the best way to do it.

...or the Live TV button :).
