I'm in need of a receiver for the kitchen monitor (HD ready). I've gone to a few stores to browse, but the choices seem limited and unnecessarily oversized to be more at home in an entertainment cabinet rather than in a kitchen cabinet or counter.
What is the smallest available (dimension h/w/d) DTV reciever in each category?

Hi-Def - No DVR:

Hi-Def - DVR:

DTV needs an undercabinet mount all-in-one with at 10" swivel HD LCD that flips up and out of the way with a built in wireless B/G and optional firewire to external HDD to enable DVR capability and integrate with my other DVRs and home media.

Standard - no DVR: Current receivers? There's only one model. D11, I believe.
Hi-Def - No DVR: Not sure.
Standard - DVR: R15 is the smallest
Hi-Def DVR - Only one exists, and it's pretty big. HR10-250

H-20 is the latest HD-non DVR receiver.

The D11 (SD rcvr no dvr) is quite a bit smaller than any of the dvr solutions.

It is 10" wide, less than 2" high, and about 7" deep (but also need room for cables on top of that).

I'm assuming the kitchen monitor is pretty small and is probably mounted under a cabinet... The d11 is the smallest offered by dtv. The H10 is smaller than the h20 but is about 4 inches wider than the d11. Also the h20 is newer than the h10 and has better specs (search this forum).

I'd go with the h20 and put it in a cabinet, run a coax line to the tv and run an ir receiver outside of the cabinet so the remote works.

I remember some tiny Hughes and Sony receivers from a few years ago. Not sure if they're still being made.

I would recommend a remote Tivo along with a Channel Plus UHF modulator.

This setup takes the output from the remote Tivo and sends it through the modulator to a UHF frequency of your choice and then through the coax to the under cabinet monitor. The remote control signals are sent thru an IR target that is aprox 1x4x4" which would mount under the cabinet next to your monitor and send the control signals back to the remote Tivo.

I use a Channel Plus 5425 Two-Channel Video Modulator in my setup and it works very well for me.
