New member here, have been looking for this answer but can't find it. I have a 80hr TIVO that runs throught a Scientific Atlantica 2200 box. I know the channel changing is supposed to be slower, but when i select channel up or down it appears that the TIVO it typing in the 3 digit number to change the channel. Therefore it takes 5 seconds to change after the TIVO channel and info changes. Is this normal?
Sorry it this is redundant but i want to have this done correctly.

Yes, it is normal.
Doing it this was has the best chance of not screwing up what you want to watch or record. The TiVo is accounting for the possibility that something else changed the channel on the cable box since the last time it did, or that it missed on its last change (off by 1 problem), or that it and your cable box have different ideas about what channels you actually reveive versus which ones they think you receive, so pushing "next channel" could mean differrent things (or the behavior of different cable boxes when you select a channel it doesn't receive -- some will go to that channel and show a blank screen, others will go back to the original channel).

So i basically have to live with it? It is really irritating. Oh well i guess i can change my channel surfing mentality.
What does "channel surfing" mean?
;)
Try surfing Now Playing, or using the live guide for surfing if you must.

Yeah that is what i meant by changing my channel surfing. I am just so used to going channel by channel.

Just getting digital cable broke me of that habit -- the old analog tuners were lightning fast, so you could zip around pretty quick, but the digital lag just got too annoying. But then I got TiVo and now I don't even think about channel changing anymore.
