Hello all,

I am a brand new subscriber to DirecTV. At first I was hoping to continue to use my stand alone series 2, however after a little bit of researching and searching (on this forum) it seems clear to me that there is no support for the D11 model of directv receiver I have been set up with. (Unless I am wrong, someone please correct me)

Moving ahead, I was wondering what options I have to obtain a directivo. Just looking at all the options with the disparity in pricing makes my head spin. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of any possible special offers available now? Also, after purchasing a directivo, am I correct in my understanding that I will need to maintain a $5/mo fee to directv to have the guide data updated on my directivo? (would this be possible without a land line? as I have none).

Wow, that was a mouthful... basically I was wondering if anyone could offer any solutions or suggestions to my current situation while minimizing price and maximizing functionality - isn't this what we all want? =) Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give! I greatly appreciate it!

What do you mean by "no support"?

I believe I can help in your situation. I work for DirecTV Operations, so if this situation were presented to me...I would respond in the following mannor.

First, I would ask to speak to a supervisor (maybe you'll get me! haha)

Explain that you were *misinformed* about product compatibility...and would have taken advantage of the original dvr rebate offer when signing up for service. Now that you are already active, the policy is that you pay $99 for the DVR and $99 OR $49 for the installation of the new unit. I would request that the installation charge, should be dropped - because of the original misinformation. Any resonable supervisor should do that. That would leave you to pay the $99 for the DVR equipment, but you would receive a $100 rebate form for that, so essentially after all is said and done, you should be able to come out of this with no total out of pocket expense, and even making a $1 profit from the $100 rebate.

You may have to play CSR/Supervisor roullete, but eventually, This is a reasonable alternative that is realistic.

Or, you can jump on the DVR4ME promo. There are several threads regarding this.

Explain that you were *misinformed* about product.....

I think retention 'misinformed' me in late Dec. '05 when they said, "if you buy the HR10-250, you will get the 6.2 folder update in the next month or two".

Again, now that you're here, when am I going to get the update???!!! I'm ready to jump off a cliff!

In this situation, the receiver in question will not automatically download the update unless it has a recent call back, and a few other requirements are met. If for some reason the receiver isn't aware that its ready for the software upgrade, which sometimes happens, you'll need to call technical support. You'll end up speaking with an advanced technical agent who will "force" the software upgrade.

this isn't a completely unusual situation.

hope i helped

Thanks for the reply- my receiver is aware that its ready for the upgrade because I have been swearing at its slowness and inefficiency for a while now.

This isn't a completely unusual situation.

I think many others have it too.

You can help me by forcing a 6.2 upgrade with folders into my HR10-250. Thanks.

I think you must have misunderstood him. He has a HD DirecTiVo (HR10-250), so there is no 6.2 update for them.

So not only do we get clueless CSR's on the phone but here too? ;)

I suspect Codespy is being facetious.

Wow, we have a time traveler in our midst. Pray tell us, will the new HD DVR suck? Will.... oh heck, who won the World Series in '05?

You need to repeat guided setup and select DirecTV when asked.

Yes. You have to tell the TiVo what provider you have when you set it up. It should give you the options for OTA, local cableco(s), Dish, DirecTV and C-Band. Simply select what you have and it'll do the rest or prompt you if it needs more info.

Wait, I'm getting a premonition........it's coming to me slowly........OK I got it.

The World Series winner in '05 is the Chicago White Sox!!! I'm going to go out on a limb and say four game sweep. And they're going to get a little help from an umpire in the series vs. the Angels.

This prediction stuff isn't as hard as I thought!

Yea, I got caught up in my own sarcasm which started this. Oops- thank god for the edit function! I still think someone would want to change their user name though, or am I the fool again? <Don't answer that!>
