Hello:

I have a Hughes HDVR2 - Series 2 DirecTV unit and would like to connect it to my network to receive broadband updates, rather than phone updates. I see lots of instructions on how to do this in regular Series 2 machines but not DirecTV with TiVo machines. Can this be done? If so:

- Which USB to Ethernet adapters work?
- What entries do I need to make in the set up?
- Is there another site or post that has this information? I didn't see one.

Thanks for your help. I don't want to be running a 25' phone cable every so often to get updates.

Thanks.

Check the underground section of this site for info on how to hack a Series 2 DTivo.

The HDVR2 needs to be hacked to enable the usb ports. After modified use the same adaptors as regular tivos work. However, I don't think you can use broadband for your updates. Search for zipper if you want to modify your Tivo.

As far as we know there will be no further software updates to the DirecTiVo. All the guide data comes over the satellite. The only effect hooking it up to your network would be to get rid of the daily nag screen. The PPV/Sports packages is a different call which can not network. The only reason to network it would be for other reasons than the phone call.
