Anyone got a dead one w/good power supply?

Anyone got a dead Series 2 DirecTiVo w/good power supply? My RCA DVR40 from the blowout sale died this morning. I know Weaknees.com has them for $49, but that is way more than the $16 that I paid for the unit. Directv is replacing it under warranty but I would like to try to save this one as well.

You might want to check eBay. I did a seach and found a couple that were $8 with $10 for shipping. That's about half the price of Weaknees. I also have a bad power supply in my DSR704 that I got on the promo. When I called DirecTV they sent my a R10 as a replacement instead of an older seris 2 unit. I think I'm going to fix the 704 and either dump the R10 on eBay or keep it as a backup.

how do you know if the power supply is bad? when I plug it in, I get a weird noise on the tv. I have unplugged the HD and got the same reponse (just making sure it isn't an HD error.

How can I test the power supply?

Is the weird sound coming from the TV or the Tivo itself? Mine just started to have trouble. After returning from a trip the Tivo was stuck on the Powering Up screen. After removing power for a day all it will do is make a high pitched squeal and sometimes engage the drive for a few seconds. Does this sound like the same problem? I think my squeal is coming from the Power Supply...

I also found my fan won't spin. My theory is the fan seized while I was away and the whole thing overheated. Just not sure what to replace (drive, power supply, board).
