So, ealier today I decided to have a go at upgrading my tivo (TCD24004A) by replacing the stock 40GB drive with a 120GB drive. I followed the instructions from weeknees, but it appears that the backup image I made from my tivo drive is bad. Basicly, whats happening is that when I go to restore the backup to the new drive it goes so far and then at a certain point it errors out with "premature end of backup data"

Now, where I really screwed up was after making a backup of the tivo drive, I formated it as a fat32 drive and used that as the drive to store the backup on. I did this because my main drive is an SATA drive which could not be used with MFS Tools. So, does anyone have somethign I should try. I'm out of ideas and I think it may come down to me findind someone that can help me out by sending me their backup, please PM me if you can help me out.

PM Stan Simmons for a backup image link and you should be back in business. You haven't hurt anything with what you have done, and with a good image can redo it all and be fine.

There are bugs in the compression library used by MFSTools that can render a backup unusable. If you want to keep your settings etc. you could try redoing the backup but leaving off the compression - ie. use -so instead of -6so.

Without compression you will need around 1.4gb of free space on your FAT drive - although you can always zip the file using WinZip for archiving to CD.

Thank you guys (and a special thanks to Stan Simmons.) I was able to get a working backup and now have an upgraded tivo. An FYI to anyone out there using the weaknees MFS ISO having boot troubles etc after an upgrade or problems in general, grab the normal non weaknees ISO. that solved all my problems (such as freezing at the "just a few more minutes screen" and reboot loops.
