My HDVR2 recently had a problem with occasionally freezing up. I would reboot it, and it would usually work fine afterwards. I assumed it was the hard drive showing signs of dying, and after about a week, it stopped booting, stuck on the "powering up..." screen.

I bought a new drive, restored my 6.2 image, put it in to test, and it still does nothing, never getting past the welcome screen. Jumpers are correct, so I tried another drive. Same problem. The only thing I notice is that there is a buzzing/hissing sound intermittently coming from (as far as I can tell) the power supply area. What else would make the Tivo get stuck at the welcome screen? The IDE controller is fried?

I guess I'm off to ebay to try my drives in a used HDVR2 or something...

OK, so I pulled the drives from the dead HDVR2, hacked them with the zipper, and put them in a DIFFERENT HDVR2, and completed the upgrade. However, when I put them into the tivo to run the zipper, I got a #51 error on the screen. So, I ran 51killer, got rid of the message, and continued on with the zipper & enhancement script process. Everything installed, and networking/MRV/HMO is working fine.

But, for some reason, my existing recordings will not play. Did 51killer also kill off those recordings? It mentioned something about tyserver & that existing encrypted streams would not work, but I thought that was just if you were using tyserver.

Are my recordings gone for good? :(

Hacking problems, try asking in the TiVo underground forum.

Anything recorded before you hacked the unit will only play back on the original unit.
