I bought instant cake and I have connected the IDE cables as follows:

Primary Master - nothing
Primary Slave - CD rom with instant cake CD
Secondary Master - Blank TIVO A drive
Secondary Slave - Blank TIVO B drive

The CD contains a multitude of files (including a .EXE file). When I book the computer, I get a message that says "No operating system found." Does this problem have to do with configuring the PC's BIOS?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Yes, you need to set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive as first option.

On startup, hit F2 to go into the Startup utility of your BIOS and tell it to start up using the CD-Rom drive. You should also be able to see there whether it is recognizing all of your attached drives. If it is not recognizing your CD-Rom drive, that could be another problem.

I mention this because this was the case with my computer, which would not recognize my CD-Rom drive when connected as primary slave on my computer with nothing else on the primary IDE.

The solution that worked for me was to add a second (spare) CD-Rom drive to the primary IDE master slot and burn another InstantCake CD for it, so my setup was:

Primary master: CD-Rom drive with InstantCake CD
Primary slave: : CD-Rom drive with InstantCake CD
Secondary master: Hard Drive
Secondary slave: Nothing

My computer happily booted from the Primary Master and then InstantCake ran from the Primary Slave. I had no problems with this at all, as the result turned out fine: a bouncing baby 249 hour TiVo drive with no fuss and no muss outside of setting up the drives.

All in all, InstantCake served me quite well and should serve you well too.
Just go into your computer's BIOS (F2 on startup) and tell it to boot from CD-Rom first. If necessary, set up two CD-Rom drives on your primary IDE like I did. Hopefully, all will be well.

Good luck!
