2 Drives to 2 LARGER drives (HR10-250)

I have a failing drive in my HR10-250.

When I first got it, I upgraded to 2x250.

Since both drives are old, and storage is CHEAP, I want to replace both drives when I open her up.

I just ordered 2 x 320 GB drives ($118 each).

When they arrive, I would like to copy the current drives (including shows, if possible) to the new drives, and take advantage of the extra 140GB of space.

How do I do this?

Either DD copy each drive to the new ones, then run mfsadd on the new pair, or using an alternate boot method (thumb drive or whatever), to mfsbackup|restore from the old pair to the new.

I guess my question / concern is this:

Since I already upgraded to 2*250, I seem to remember some folks having issues with running out of partitions???? when trying mfsadd for a second time.

Am I imagining this?

Is there a way I can check to make sure I'm OK?

Is there a way I can check to make sure I'm OK?If your A drive has never been expanded, it should have one more pair of free partition slots. It won't be a problem on the B drive since the B drive probably only contains one partition pair now.

The only issue I see is that dd will replicate your current 250GB disk partition table. IIRC, mfsadd won't "see" the extra space on the 320GB drives unless you reinitialize the partition tables on both disks following the instructions here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=629559&&#post629559). The post there is an old one, but it is still relevant for this case. Just use the free ptvupgrade lba48 iso that has pdisk on it rather than the Kazymyr's boot CD Robert S recommends there.
