How long do I have setup my Tivo? I bought it Friday but the Cable co isn't coming until Monday. I'm sure I'm fine there but just wondering how long I have. Also If I go through the setup process on Tivo's site do I do that before plugging in the Tivo and how much of a timeframe do I have between online and the setup? Thanks.

If this is a new Tivo and you are expecting to get a rebate of any kind, you have to have it activated by whatever deadline exist for that rebate. As for setting it up, you can activate service and pay for it and never actually set up the Tivo - there is no deadline.

Again, if it is a new Tivo, you can set it up and use it for about a week before it will start telling you that you need to activate service. So you won't have to set it up and then wait for the service to actually start.

Out of curiosity, what is the cable company coming out to do - install service, or do you think you need them to do something for the TiVo specifically? Be prepared to just smile and nod if the cable guy makes claims along the lines of "Oh, TiVo won't work with cable, you should get our DVR instead."

They're just coming out to install. He's going to flick a switch on the pole outside and then check to see that one tv is working then collect his fee. Yeah I'm waiting for some pretty ingnorant things to be said.
