Somehow I lost my post so I'll post again;

I previously had an HDVR2 through Directv. Now, I am using my cable co. Although I am using their DVR, I really miss Tivo. I understand they sell standalone Tivos that will work through my cable box, I'm not sure how it will work. My box is a Scientific atlanta Explorer 4200 SD. It does not have a serial port. Is there anyway to get the same functionality I had with Directv?

Help!!!

Sure. The TiVo will control channels on your cable box with an IR blaster cable instead of the serial connection. A bit slower but works fine.

But, will I be able to do all the things I used to with Tivo through Directv? Can it record two channels at once? I know I can record one show while watching a recorded show but 2 recording at the same time?

A standalone will pretty well function the same way as your DirecTV DVR, except it cannot record two things at once (it has only one encoder, and the cable box you have can only tune one channel at a time also).

Maybe I'll stay with the Cable Co's DVR. It's not nearly as good but at least I can record two shows at once.
