TiVo Suggestions

Hey folks....I have a few questions on TiVo suggestions......I am still fairly new (since Christmas) but without a doubt absolutely LOVE my TiVo.....Anyway, my questions are really about the suggestions menu.....I have the series 2, with 7.2 software. My questions are:

1-On the suggestions menu, is there a set number of suggestions Tivo will display. I go through each night, and rate their suggestions, and set up recordings for what I like. It seems like the shows I gave thumbs up to has now filled up about 4 or 5 pages, and no more suggestions are being added.

2-If the above is true, and I take the ratings down to no rating, will Tivo still record some of these shows?

3-When I rate a show I like while watching it live, or on the program guide, does this automatically put it in the suggestions menu?

Not all rated programs will show up in the suggestions menu, and sometimes unrated programs will be absent (and sometimes not). The ways of Suggestions are mysterious. You can't automatically put things in the suggestions menu by rating them, or really expect tivo to record anything consistently based on thumbs ratings. The way tivo decides what to record is basically unknown outside of Tivo, Inc., and clearly changes from time to time as well.

I would just give ratings to programs according to your tastes and not try to "manage" Suggestions. It seems to work best that way anyway.

One thing to keep in mind is that a Suggestion won't even try to schedule if you are using the remote in LiveTV. We basically figure that if you're already in LiveTV using the remote, you're watching something you like. So, if you're watching LiveTV a lot, you won't see Suggestions being recorded.

In the past, we used to ask people if it was okay to change to a Suggestion but there were too many issues with the channel changing when people were away from the set for just a minute and the channel change blew out the stored cache.

Even within the company, the ways of Suggestions are still considered "magical". Don't try to outthink them, as they have a mind of their own! ;)
