Hi.

I have a series 2 TiVo and I was wondering if it's possible to use it as a backup drive for my Macintosh. If so, how?

Also, can I just add an additional drive to the TiVo, or do I have to replace the 40GB? Can someone point me towards a tutorial?

Thanks.

You could remove the drive from your TiVo and install it in your Mac if there is room. An additional drive can be added to series two TiVo but depending on your model probably will require a special bracket to hold two drives. You would then need to program the new drive in Linux to work with existing drive. All the details regarding the process can be found in the stickies at the top of this forum.

I guess I phrased my question poorly, sorry. I am going to add a 300GB drive to my Series 2 TiVo. As well as having the TiVo use this drive, I also would like to connect to it over the network from my Mac to backup files.

Is this possible?

Which files? The only files you can transfer to and from Tivo's are programs originally recorded on the TiVo.

You cannot use the TiVo as a backup drive.

You can add a drive to a TiVo, but it is usually better to replace.

If you are looking for general backup space for your computer, you would be better to add the drive to your Mac, and use Galleon to archive and serve recordings to/from the TiVo.
