Try cycling through the resolution selections on the front of the HD Tivo and see if the video locks in.

Have never been able to get the HDMI to work...I believe it is a HARDWARE defect. I know DirecTV knows about this, but will not fix it, for some reason. For a set that cost close to a grand, its rediculous that DirecTV will not take responsibility. Does anyone know if they will be adding a new model. I know that when the new satellites are turned on for more HD programming, we will have to change the receiver and antenna.

Um, there's lots of reports here of DirecTV replacing boxes with bad HDMI ports.

My own HR10 does HDMI just fine.

Spaced over 1 1/2 years, I've gone through four HR10-250s, due to pink HDMI screens, etc. Number four has looked pretty good, though I used an HDMI to DVI cable to avoid the pink screen. Anyway, just to play it safe, I bought the extended warranty from D*. Brilliant move, 'cause tonight the "high temperature" message appeared, and when I redtarted it, the HDMI was gone. So, I switched to component video which still worked, and that's that.

I think I'm going to stay put this way, and wait out the new boxes from D*, 'cause all I'll be doing is losing what I've got recorded, and, by now, I'd probably get a used one. The 10-250s have great features, but the quality stinks.

Two solutions:

1) For the general HDMI problems -- pink picture, etc. -- the solution is to go with these guys: http://www.ccscorporation.net/ . It'll cost you a little bit, but it's worth it as compared to the aggrevation of dealing with DirecTV. CCS fixes HDMI and fixes it right the first time. Not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.

2) For the fake overheating issue, get a Gefen DVI Detective (do a web search). You'll lose audio over HDMI, since it's DVI, but you can just run an optical audio cable from the HR10-250 to the TV instead. You won't have any more fake overheating issues.

I recall reading a post sometime back wherein they had their HDMI card repaired (by CCSCorp., I think) and after re-installing it they found that the HDMI and component outputs would both work at the same time.

Have you tried that, and if so did it work?

I second CCS and no, I haven't tried dual outputs.
