reason I am asking is I only record over the air and I'm moving.
DTV cannot install a new dish for a week, If I move my Tivo's on power back up so then never shut off between houses, it still gets live OTA signal and will record.
I'm just wondering how long the tivo will continue to work OTA with nothing screwed into sat 1 and sat 2 on the back, just the RF port.

I'm pretty sure you need the dish to get the guide data and turn on the recording capability. I know others will tell you for sure but if not, just unplug both inputs and see how you do.
I've read that the unit will get ota so you can watch live..and maybe a buffer, but thats about it.
edit i read in the manual if the dish isn't connected, no guide data

You won't be able to record at all without an input from a satellite dish. When the receiver boots up, it looks for the satellite signal. If it doesn't get it, it will change your account status to closed. You can verify this for yourself by pulling the plug, disconnecting the dish and then powering the reciver back up. Go into system information and you will see what I mean.

Perhaps you can set up a temporary dish like an RV set up. I have a tripod mount and a 101-only dual-LNB dish that I take sometimes when we travel. It takes just a few minutes to setup, set the TiVo for 101-only, gets the guide data and everything except the channels on 110 and 119.
Maybe a friend with an RV would let you borrow theirs for a week.
BTW, I now have a 3-LNB 101/110/119 dish I can take with me, but I have not used it yet.
