Ordering a new HD Tivo Question

Just want to make sure I've got this right - if I order a brand new in the box 10-250 from Ebay, get it and activate it, then D* sends me a rebate form and I use the receipt I got from PayPal and send it in before the end of the month, all will go well? Thanks in advance.

I tried the exact thing and bought an HR10 from eBay and sent in the $200 rebate form and D* denied the rebate. I'm assuming you have to buy from D* or maybe a regular retailer like CC, BB, etc.

Was it new or used? I'm in the process of doing this now. I'm expecting my HR10 this week in fact. I was told by three csrs on three separate calls that the rebate would be honored. I also saw nothing regarding that on the rebate forms I've seen online.

It was new. Maybe the problem was that I didn't have a proper store receipt? Also the HR10 replaced an older DTiVo and I used the old access card and not the new one so a new activation did not show up on my bill. Another complication was that I received a $100 rebate on a HR10 that I purchased from D* in Sept 05. The denial letter I got stated that I was not eligible.

Thanks for taking the time to let me know. That makes me feel a little better at least. Other posters have remarked that they got it.

If they give me trouble about it I'm going to raise hell, since I've asked three times before pulling the trigger. Considering I've never gotten a rebate or any type of free equipment from them (since sign up), hopefully they will come through for me.

nclou - You told all three csrs that you were buying the HR10 from eBay and they confirmed that it did not matter where you buy it as long as it is new and you do a new activation? How long ago did you buy the HR10?

I think I bought it last Friday and I should get it today or tomorrow. You do need some sort of receipt, but they said an email printout or online printout would be fine. So I don't know if you could buy one from some guy for cash off craigslist or something, but they were clear that this would be fine. I will go over it one more time when I call to activate, hopefully this weekend.

The other thing I'am wondering about is the warranty. If it goes bad in the first year, who do you turn to for help? Can you get a replacement from the manufacturer or do you have to send it in? One thing about D* is that they appear to readily replace units that go bad. Maybe its worth the extra $ for that.
